2012-13 Luvabulls: Meet Carissa

>> Back to the 2012-13 Chicago Luvabulls index

What does being a member of the Luvabulls mean to you?

It has been my dream to dance professionally with the Chicago Luvabulls since I attended my very first Bulls game at age 10. I love to perform and what an awesome way to continue dancing! The memories I have will last a lifetime and I couldn’t be more thankful for it.

How has your dancing experience led you to this point?

I started studio dancing at age 5, with a concentration in jazz, tap, ballet, pointe, lyrical, and modern. In high school, I was a member of the Quincy Notre Dame Pom Squad for 2 years and a member of the Quincy High School Pom Squad for an additional 2 years, including captain my senior year. In college, I danced on Illinois State University’s Dance Team, and was a captain my junior and senior year. After college, I danced for the Peoria Pirates Dance Team. This is my seventh year as a Chicago Luvabull.

What is your claim to fame—besides being a Luvabull?

Dancing in a music video and also dancing on stage with Vanilla Ice!

What do you do for a living?

I work as a Behavioral Health Counselor for students with special needs at a therapeutic day school.

Describe the feeling of performing at a Bulls playoff game.

The feeling of performing at a Bulls playoff game is like no other feeling in the world! The intensity and excitement can be felt the minute you walk into the United Center. Performing on center court, amongst the sea of red, I realize how fortunate I am to be a part of this organization. When I am performing, there is no other place that I would rather be!

What people do you admire the most and how have they supported or inspired you as a dancer?

My parents, two sisters, and two brothers have watched me perform and grow as a dancer over the last 22 years. I wouldn’t be where I am today without all of the love and support they have given to me. I also admire all of my dance teachers and coaches, as they have pushed me to be the best dancer that I can be.

What is your proudest accomplishment to date and where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I am proud that I am currently able to balance a full-time job, Luvabulls, and take graduate-level classes. In 10 years, I hope to be married with 2 children. I see myself attending Bulls games each season, cheering for the Bulls, and of course cheering for the Luvabulls!
