Greetings from Sao Paulo, Brazil!

By Erika Cruz | 05.18.2013 | 12:00 p.m. CT

Sao Paulo - We are so excited to be here for the NBA’s international grassroots program, NBA 3X, aimed at celebrating and growing the game of basketball in an exciting and entertaining 3-on-3 format. This program offers fans and players an authentic NBA experience through competition, interactive activities and entertainment.

We had a smooth, 13-hour flight and even had the chance to watch the second half of Game 5 of the Bulls/Heat series during our layover. We almost missed our flight because we could not stop watching! We are so proud of the successes of our team this season and cannot think of another team that has so much passion and fight for the game of basketball.

Upon our arrival to Sao Paulo, we immediately got settled in our hotel room and freshened up to attend a taping of a late night television show entitled, "Altas Horas." We had a quick rehearsal to prepare for a performance and interview. Although the primary language here is Portuguese, the host knew some English so we were fortunately able to understand his questions.

Later that evening, we were invited to a small viewing party to watch Game 5 of the Pacers/Knicks series. There we met more of the NBA staff, partners of NBA 3X and Anderson Varejao from the Cleveland Cavaliers who is also a special guest for this weekend’s festivities. During the game, we were also able to try Brazil’s specialty drink, Caipirinha, which was very tasty!

Yesterday, we had a busy morning with a photo shoot and an appearance on ESPN Brasil. Later, we were able to see the city, do some shopping and eat at a Brazilian steakhouse!

This morning at NBA 3X, we cheered on the kids during a basketball clinic with Anderson Varejao at Parque Villa-Lobos, the park where all the events are taking place. Anderson was running drills and relay races with the kids and we ended the clinic with a crowd-pumping performance. We will return later this afternoon for a few more performances and interactive activities. We can’t wait!
