January 8, 2009 – As part of the Chicago Bulls’ Read To Achieve program, the Bulls’ Michael Ruffin, along with Bob Love and Benny the Bull , hosted a public reading with local children and their parents at the Northbrook Public Library on Wednesday.
Beginning at 4 p.m., Ruffin read out loud from Hotel for Dogs by Lois Duncan. Following the reading, the Bulls were joined by Orphans of the Storm animal shelter. Orphans takes in, cares for and finds good and loving adoptive homes for thousands of stray and abandoned dogs and cats each year. They discussed the importance of animal adoption and were joined by three dogs from Orphans.

A feature film based on the book Hotel for Dogs is scheduled to open in theaters on January 16. Everyone attending the event received free passes to a special screening of the movie.
The Bulls, Rush University Medical Center and ComEd coordinated the event as part of the Bulls’ ongoing Read To Achieve program, which inspires literacy among Chicago’s youth by encouraging families and adults to read regularly with young children. As part of its annual commitment, the Bulls host Reading Time Outs with local children, distribute more than 5,000 new books and organize literacy activities. Rush University Medical Center and ComEd are partners of the program.
