Holiday food drive nets over 10,000 pounds of food
December 8, 2010 – The Chicago Bulls, Midway Moving and Storage and Vienna Beef hosted a holiday food drive on December 4 to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository. The food drive collected more than 10,000 pounds of food which will provide a lot of meals for those in need.
Prior to the tip-off of the Bulls’ home game against the Houston Rockets, fans were encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items at any of the United Center admission gates.
High protein foods in unbreakable containers, as well as baby foods, diapers and hygiene products were highly recommended. Monetary donations to the Greater Chicago Food Depository in conjunction with the food drive were also be collected at the gates that night.
Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, C.J. Watson and Ronnie Brewer also made personal donations to the food drive.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago’s food bank, is a nonprofit food distribution and training center providing food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. The Food Depository distributes donated and purchased food through a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters to 678,000 adults and children in Cook County every year.
