Aug. 30, 2005 – Chicago Bulls guard Chris Duhon today announced he is launching an effort in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina in Slidell, La.
The player’s hometown suffered extensive damage due to the recent natural disaster and is currently seeking financial support, food and clothing donations to assist its victims. The Chris Duhon Hurricane Relief Fund has been established to aid in that effort.
“This tragic event has destroyed the homes and lives of many people – people I know,” Duhon said. “Many towns are experiencing this devastation and have yet to determine what, if any, buildings will be saved. We have to do something to help ease this burden.”
As soon as possible, Duhon will organize the delivery of all supplies to Slidell and monetary donations will be used to rebuild homes, schools and community buildings. NBA players Raymond Felton, Jay Williams and Vin Baker have already pledged their financial support.
