February 12, 2008 – In recognition of Chris Duhon's outstanding efforts in the community and for his ongoing philanthropic work, the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) will honor the Bulls guard at its annual All-Star Gala, during the 2008 NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans. Additionally, Duhon will also be recognized by the National Basketball Wives Association at their annual luncheon for his community efforts.

On Saturday, February 16, Duhon will attend the NBA Wives Association luncheon to receive an award for his community work to improve the conditions of post-Katrina New Orleans. Later that evening at the NBPA’s All-Star Gala ceremony, Duhon will be among the three NBA players including Chauncey Billups (Detroit Pistons) and Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets) to be honored with the NBPA’s Community Contribution All-Star Award.

Throughout the season, Duhon makes himself available for a wide array of community events serving children and helping victims of Hurricane Katrina. Continuing a commitment he made immediately following the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, Duhon announced in November that he was making a personal donation of $100,000 to construct basketball courts throughout New Orleans and in his hometown of Slidell, La. As families are returning to the New Orleans area, recreation programs are limited because of the conditions of the courts and play areas in the communities, so Duhon’s commitment will allow for new places for kids to play throughout the city.

Through his Stand Tall Foundation, which has raised more than $450,000 for the victims of Katrina and aided in the reconstruction of Slidell, Duhon has launched “Operation 21” - a project to refurbish 21 outside basketball courts in New Orleans and Slidell.

Additionally, Duhon recently teamed up with the international hunger relief organization, “Feed the Children” to provide 400 families in Slidell with boxes of food and personal care items.

This summer, he also participated in the NBA’s Basketball without Borders Europe and Asia camps and hosted a boy’s basketball camp that he founded and organized in Slidell. Additionally, for the holiday season, Duhon continued his charitable efforts by underwriting the cost of a holiday party for Illinois’ Department of Children and Family Services, visiting children at Rush Medical Center to spread holiday cheer and distribute gifts for children who could not make it home for the holidays, and he attended a holiday party with children from the USO whose parents were deployed to Iraq during the holidays.

Most recently, Duhon participated in an in-classroom discussion with students from Martin Luther King College Prep High School in Chicago to celebrate the Martin Luther King Day holiday. Duhon led a discussion focused on the legacy of the civil rights movement and the importance of education, determination, hard work and commitment for success in today’s world.
