Hundreds of Fans Run With the Bulls in Third Annual 5K

    CHICAGO, June 21, 2004 – Chicago Bulls players Kirk Hinrich, Linton Johnson III and Jannero Pargo joined hundreds of runners on Sunday, June 20 for the third annual Miller Lite Running with the Bulls 5K.

    Racers sped through the United Center’s west side neighborhood before crossing the finish line to cheers and handshakes from the trio of pro athletes. The 5K event raised approximately $30,000 for the organization’s charity arm, CharitaBulls, which supports educational and recreational programs for local youth.

    For the second consecutive year, Dave Carlson of McHenry, Illinois placed first for the men (15:11) and Stacy Beste (18:02) of Wheeling, Illinois notched her second consecutive win among women. Trophies and prizes were also distributed to the top three men and top three women finishers in each age group.

    The 5K race was followed immediately by the Pepsi Edge Kids’ Fun Run where hundreds of children competed in a variety of distance competitions. Benny the Bull was on hand to wave the starting flag for each age group and distribute prizes.

    Families and spectators were also treated to music, refreshments, a free throw competition, the awards ceremony and an opportunity to meet the Bulls players.

    The Bulls co-hosted the race and its festivities with Miller Lite, Pepsi Edge, Fleet Feet Sports Chicago, UIC Mile Square Health Center and Chicago Athlete.

    Since its inception in 1987, CharitaBulls has distributed tens of millions of dollars is support of recreational and educational opportunities for Chicago’s youth. Past beneficiaries of CharitaBulls include Chicago Public Schools, Chicago Public Library, James Jordan Boys & Girls Club and Family Life Center, City Year Chicago and Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago, among many others.
