500 MPS Students Read to Achieve Wednesday with the Bucks

11/15/2010

The Milwaukee Bucks, in partnership with Sam's Hope Literacy Foundation and in support of the Bucks Read to Achieve literacy initiative, will sponsor a "Bringing the Books Home Campaign" event on Wednesday, November 17, from 1:00 p.m.-2:15 p.m. at Discovery World (500 North Harbor Drive, Milwaukee, WI 53202). Bucks players and coaches will read to 500 Milwaukee Public School first, second and third grade students to promote youth literacy in Milwaukee. Each student in attendance will receive books for their home libraries with a total of 6,000 books being distributed by the conclusion of the event. This is the first time in their 13 year literacy efforts that the Bucks/Sam's Hope are partnering with Discovery World to host the event.

Upon arrival at Discovery World, the students will have interactive time at all of the museum's exhibits. When the players and coaches arrive, they will spend time with the students at the exhibits before breaking into smaller groups throughout the exhibit spaces to read with them. After the small group reading sessions, the students and players will gather together for a reading rally where the Bucks and Sam's Hope will donate 6,000 brand new books to the students at the event.

The Bucks 2010-11 season marks the 13th Anniversary of the Milwaukee Bucks partnership with Sam's Hope Literacy Foundation. For more information about the Bucks/Sam's Hope Literacy Foundation partnership, please visit the Community Relations page on Bucks.com.
