Bucks Partner with Bloodcenter of Wisconsin for 10th Annual Blood Drive

02/24/2011

Did you know that the Milwaukee Bucks have helped save more than 11,000 lives in the past nine years? The Bucks want that number to grow to new heights as they partner with the BloodCenter of Wisconsin for the 10th annual Blood Drive on Monday, February 28 at the Bradley Center. Monday’s blood drive runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will include surprise visits from Bucks players, the Energee! Dance Team and Bucks mascot Bango.

This annual event is in its 10th year and over the years, the Bucks Blood Drive has put up some big numbers.

Did you know that…

  • Since 2002, approximately 4,305 donors have attended the Bucks Blood Drive.
  • Approximately 3,742 units of blood have been collected at the drive.
  • One unit of blood can save up to three lives (3,742 units x three lives per unit = 11,226 lives saved thanks to the Bucks Blood Drive).
  • BloodCenter of Wisconsin is the sole provider of blood products to 29 counties in Wisconsin.
  • Blood donation takes just an hour of your time.

This year, the BloodCenter hopes to see over 500 donors during the twelve hour drive. All attempting donors will receive a free t-shirt as well as a voucher for two tickets to a future Bucks game. Donors can also enjoy free coffee and donuts provided by Open Pantry, pizza courtesy of Palermo’s Pizza, pasta and breadsticks from Trattoria DiCarlo, Pepsi soft drinks and Frontier Airlines’ famous chocolate chip cookies. Free child care will be provided.

By donating blood through BloodCenter of Wisconsin, you are giving a priceless gift to children and adults who are seriously injured, undergoing surgery or being treated for cancer and other illnesses. For these patients, the availability of blood could be a matter of life or death. By donating just one unit of blood and one hour of their time, donors have the potential to save up to three lives. Donating is a quick and easy way to make a difference in your community, and by becoming a blood donor, you are choosing to help save a life.

Anyone who is in general good health and meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to donate blood. The entire process takes about an hour and all blood types are needed. Donors should bring a photo ID. Appointments to donate at the Milwaukee Bucks Drive can be made by calling 1-877-BE-A-HERO or online at www.bcw.edu.
