On Tuesday night, Bucks fans got a free sample of 2010-11 Bucks Basketball. It started with a festive pre-practice party on the plaza, compliments of Pick 'N Save. The dollar menu went over big with proceeds going to the Roundy's Foundation to benefit hunger relief.

"With live entertainment, games for kids, dollar menu items and more, it's a great time for everyone," said Bucks VP John Steinmiller. "There is a ton of momentum and great interest in this team and tonight's open practice will give fans another reason to get excited."

Prior to tip-off, the voice of the Bucks, Jim Paschke, introduced GM John Hammond to the 6,274 fans in the stands. When asked what he had looked to accomplish this off-season, Hammond replied, "We worked hard to improve the depth of this team."

A very appropriate goal as the injury bug seems to have already crept through an open window at the training center. Twelve players suited up for Tuesday night's scrimmage as Andrew Bogut, Jon Brockman and John Salmons looked on from the bench in a protective glove, boot and sweatpants respectively. Larry Sanders and Corey Maggette practiced back from ankle injuries of their own.

With the regular season right around the corner (Oct. 27 at New Orleans), the Bucks hit the Bradley Center court in a spirited inter-squad scrimmage in front of an excited crowd of Bucks fans.

The Squads:
PLAY HARD (black jerseys)
Boykins, Delfino, Skinner, Sanders, Dooling, Kramer, Maggette
Coach - Kelvin Sampson

WORK HARD (white jerseys)
Jennings, Mbah a Moute, Gooden, Douglas-Roberts, Ilyasova
Coach - Jim Boylan

QUARTER 1 NOTES

  • Drew Gooden with a hard foul on Brian Skinner. Great competitive spirit from the get-go as the two "new" big men get tangled up on the block as Skinner establishes deep post position on the second possession of the night.
  • Luc Richard Mbah a Moute draws a charge on Corey Maggette. Nobody makes defense look as easy as Luc does.
  • Gooden no look drop down to Jennings to put the black team up 2-1. One of two nice passes early on from Gooden from the free throw line extended. Not known for his passing ability, Drew shows signs of complementing fellow big man Andrew Bogut in the passing department.
  • Brandon Jennings takes Keyon Dooling off the dribble as the crowd erupts in anticipation of the running lefty tear drop at the buzzer.

End of one - Work hard up 8-7

"How-low-can-you -go (Ludacris voice)?" Apparently all the way to the floor for the phenom fan favorite.

QUARTER 2 NOTES

  • Maggette goes hard to the rack on Luc. Although he wasn't able to finish, he showed tremendous strength muscling up a tough lay-up from the right side. There is no doubt Bucks fans will enjoy seeing this all season long.
  • Jennings shows his ability to knock down jumpers as he works his way through traffic for a free throw line jumpber to tie the game. Ten seconds later he knocks the ball loose to Chris Douglas Roberts who gives it back to Jennings for a corner three. Solid guard play. In the twitter words of @cdouglasroberts, "yes yesss yessss."
  • Earl Boykins drives and kicks to Keyon Dooling for an open three. These two veteran guards play well together. It will be interesting to see all the player combinations Skiles puts on the floor this year. It's not likely this will be one fans will see all too often, but it certainly is a good option.

QUARTER 3 NOTES

  • Gooden blocks Maggette. These two guys are physical. Not only did John Hammond deepen the Bucks this off-season, he also strengthened them as well - literally.
  • Jennings penetrates the lane and dishes to Ilyasova with a wrap-around pass. Ersan hits the lay-up and draws the foul. Brandon's ability to create off the dribble is remarkable. He has an incredible ability to find the seams and open players. Jennings dished out three assists to go along with his 18 points on 6 of 13 shooting.
  • Maggette runs the floor the on a fastbreak, finishes the lay-up and draws the foul. Maggette looks to finish strong every time. He doesn't display a strong desire to pass the ball on the break (although he finished the night with two assists), but when a guy finishes as well as Maggette does, nobody is going to argue.
  • Pump fake and the bucket from Ersan. Even though guys know he is going to do it to them every time, they still leave their feet. Amazing.
  • Earl Boykins does his best Ersan impression, but can't connect on the jumper after the pump fake. Rookie Larry Sanders skies for the put back dunk. Sanders follows up this nice athletic play with another strong dunk the next trip down. He is certainly going to be a fun player to watch develop this year on both ends of the floor.
  • Jennings slices through the defense for another driving lay-up in traffic. Newsflash: He is fast.
  • Dooling knocks down his first bucket, an open three in the corner and follows up with another bucket on the next trip (lay-up). Dooling spent most of the night moving and distributing the ball. His six assists were a scrimmage high. As good as Luke Ridnour was last year, Dooling has a chance of being even better.

Rim Rockers jam out to Beastie Boys. The short hand four man crew still puts on quite a show. No word yet if the injury bug snuck into their locker room. | Video

QUARTER 4 NOTES

  • Quite possibly the biggest Earl Boykins fans in state of Wisconsin were in attendance tonight showing their support.
  • Chris Douglas Roberts with an incredible baseline drive up and under spin move that came up just short. He has a nose for the rim. Normally a good finisher, CDR struggled tonight going 1-6 from the floor.
  • Earl Boykins knocks down two big shots late in the contest. Even though we've seen it so many times before, it's still amazing that he can get to any spot on the court and get his shot.

HALF COURT SHOTS
What better way to end the night than with a couple half court buckets to win 6-game ticket packages for a couple lucky fans. Brian Skinner was the first to knock one down for his fan, Mara. Not necessarily the prettiest half court shot, but effective nonetheless. Brandon followed up with a bank shot off the glass for the 2nd and final giveaway of the night.
