MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Bucks have announced their first partnership with a Chinese business. The Bucks have entered into a multi-year sponsorship agreement with Peak, an athletic footwear and sports apparel manufacturer that is the leading brand in its category in China.

Peak will appear as a courtside signage sponsor at all Milwaukee Bucks home games played in the Bradley Center during 2007-08. Up to 25 of these home games will be telecast to China reaching as many as 160,000,000 households for each telecast. Peak will also use the Milwaukee Bucks relationship to further its brand awareness in China and internationally. The Peak brand will have significant presence on the Milwaukee Bucks website, bucks.com which has experienced significant growth by visitors. In recent months, for example, visits by Chinese fans have represented as much as 25 percent of site traffic.

The announcement was made Wednesday in Milwaukee, at a media conference attended by Xu Zhihua, Vice President – General Manager of Fujian Peak Group Co. Ltd., Ron Walter, Vice President of the Milwaukee Bucks, and Bucks General Manager Larry Harris.

“As basketball experiences rapid growth in China, the Milwaukee Bucks franchise has particularly become very well-known in our country. We are happy to associate with the Bucks and use Milwaukee Bucks games and broadcasts to build our brand,” Peak Vice President – General Manager Xi Zhihua said.

“This is an important new partnership for the Milwaukee Bucks,” Bucks Vice President Ron Walter said. “Peak is China’s top brand in the sports footwear and apparel market. We are pleased to join with them in furthering their business goals here and in China.”

Peak has existing agreements with the NBA and the Houston Rockets to elevate brand awareness in domestic and international markets. Peak began in the early 1990’s as China’s first manufacturer of large-sized sports shoes. It has since developed a full line of fashion and performance footwear and apparel.

The Milwaukee Bucks are celebrating their 40th anniversary season of competition in the National Basketball Association (NBA). General Manager Larry Harris and Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak lead the Central Division squad. The Bucks won the NBA Championship in 1971 and became the only professional sports expansion team to win a league championship in the third season of play, a mark that still stands. The team has captured two Conference Titles (1971 and 1974) and thirteen division titles. Since 1968, the Bucks have played before 90 percent capacity crowds. The Bucks are owned by U.S. Senator Herb Kohl who is in his 23rd season of ownership.
