Behind Turkoglu and Lewis, making his Eastern Conference debut, the Magic buried Milwaukee from behind the arc. Orlando was 12-of-22, compared with 4-of-17 for the Bucks. Lewis was 4-of-5 and Turkoglu 3-for-5.
The Magic actually shot better from 3-point range (54 percent) than from the field (44 percent).
Michael Redd scored 25 points for Milwaukee and Bobby Simmons added 16. Yi Jianlian had nine points and three rebounds in 25 minutes in his debut, sitting for several stretches in foul trouble. Andrew Bogut finished with 11 rebounds.
Yi's first NBA statistic was a turnover, but he responded the next play by blocking Turkoglu's layup. The 7-footer scored his first NBA bucket about 30 seconds later on a 22-foot jumper.

On the game getting away in the third quarter:
“Well that’s the difference in the game. Unfortunately you have to count all four quarters and we had three pretty solid quarters of basketball and in the fourth quarter we shot ourselves in the foot. They displayed a lot of what they did in the preseason with the floor spread and breaking us down off the dribble and they’ve got a great shooting team. We just couldn’t handle that barrage of points. The third quarter was the difference in the basketball game. Actually, (in) the second half of the second quarter we had a seven point lead at the media timeout with six minutes left in the second quarter where we’re up 41-34, and from that point on until the end of the third quarter it wasn’t pretty. I’m real eager to watch the film and see what some of the issues were.”
On how the game got away so quickly:
“We’re in a ball game at halftime and that’s what you hope to be when you’re on the road. Certainly that’s what we were thinking about but some of that started in the second quarter when they closed on an 8-0 spurt. We’ll learn from it. It’s the first of many and there are some positive signs out there and some things we have to address and that’s what it’s all about.”
On how they defended against Hedo Turkoglu:
“Turkoglu presents a match up problem for not just our team but for a lot of guys. He’s an offensive-minded player; he’s crafty. He’s been around the block a time our two. He got his feet set, did a nice job and got some lay-ups. I think they’ve got a nice team over there and I give them an awful lot of credit for the way that they played.”
On Yi Jianlian’s performance:
“I’ll look at it again. I thought he did pretty well compared to what took place today and some of the circus that’s going on. I think he’s got an awful lot on his mind, opening day jitters and the whole thing. I think he’s going to be fine at the end of the day. We’ll look at some film with him and make sure he gets a little bit better tomorrow.”
Michael Redd
“There was not too much I liked out there tonight. For the most part like Coach said to us, we played good basketball for three quarters. The third quarter just murdered us. We stopped executing and they got hot. We did not defend the three-point line too well and they made us pay for it.”
“They got terrific shooting. We had to collapse a lot on Dwight and they were getting wide open shots. We have to defend the three better.”
“I felt that it was our game to take especially going into the third quarter and we just got slaughtered. We can’t have any collapses like that. Other than that we played a very solid game other than that third quarter.”
On whether there were opening night jitters for Yi Jianlian:
“I am sure there were. It is a learning experience for him. He is learning the NBA game. It is a different game. He will be fine. All we have to do is keep encouraging him and let him know that there are 81 more games to go.”
Yi Jianlian
“In the first half, the team played pretty good. In the third quarter, Orlando put it all together. I got into foul trouble in the third quarter with two of them on Dwight Howard. If I can control the fouls I can play much better.”
Desmond Mason
“We didn’t shoot the ball well. I went 3 for 11 and missing “chippies” right around the basket. I won’t miss those all season long. Mike (Redd) was 0-5 from the three, that won’t happen. We had some shots, but we will turn it around.”
“There is nothing wrong with being upset about the loss, but you know we have more games and we could play a lot better. We are a better team than we showed tonight and we need to bounce back against Charlotte.”
“They got hot. They hit some open shots. We had our hands in their faces on some of their shots. We can’t give up a lot of open ones. It is unfortunate that tonight we were the team that they got hot against. I don’t think any team in the NBA can shoot like that the entire season. They will have ups and downs in their offense like we did tonight.”
“I watched him (Howard) over the summer and he was working on the left hand jump hook. He can always block shots because he is super athletic and he plays hard. He needs to continue to develop his offensive game. He has added a couple of extra moves and that is all he needs. It is all about repetition in this league.”
