Iverson comes off bench, helps Pistons beat Bucks
    By AP Writer

AUBURN HILLS, Mich.(AP) Allen Iverson scored 17 points in his first game as a reserve this season, leading the Detroit Pistons to a 107-97 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night.

Iverson was benched by Pistons coach Michael Curry to begin the game, punishment for missing a mandatory team practice on Thanksgiving. He apologized Friday morning, then sat on the bench for almost 10 minutes as Rodney Stuckey started instead.

Richard Jefferson and Ramon Sessions each scored 21 points for the Bucks, who lost their third consecutive game and trailed by as many as 15 points. Milwaukee center Dan Gadzuric, starting in place of the injured Andrew Bogut, had 12 rebounds.

Iverson made an immediate impact when he did get in, making his first basket just 39 seconds after he entered. He had 10 points at halftime and hit three baskets within a two-minute period in the fourth quarter that put away the Bucks. He also had five assists.

Walter Hermann added 16 points for the Pistons, and Jason Maxiell had 13.

Even with Iverson on the bench, the Pistons didn't miss a beat because of Stuckey. Starting for the third time this season, Stuckey scored seven points in the first quarter and had an impressive assist on Tayshaun Prince's basket on a fast break. Stuckey scored five points in a 9-0 run which gave Detroit an 18-13 lead. The Pistons never trailed after that.

NOTES: Bogut missed his second consecutive game due to a bone bruise in his left knee. He is averaging 11.4 points and 10.9 rebounds. Also out for the Bucks was guard Michael Redd (right ankle sprain) and they lost Charlie Villaneuva to a left hamstring strain in the fourth quarter. ... The Pistons are 3-0 when Stuckey starts. ... The game finished off a four-game road trip for the Bucks in which they lost three times. Their 12 road games (4-8 record) are the most for any team in the NBA. ... Prince started his 370th consecutive game, tops among active players.

    Postgame Quotes:

    Skiles
    BUCKS HEAD COACH SCOTT SKILES:

    On their defense...
“For whatever reason, particularly in the last three games, we’ve lost a bit of our will to defend. I’m having a hard time finding lineups that are willing to go out there and try and defend.  We’ve got to find a way to get it back otherwise we won’t win.  We’re trying to find anything we can to find a group that will go out there and get stops for us.  We’ve had a hard time doing that lately.”

    On working on their defense...
“Typically what happens is there is other slippage during parts of the year but you’re able to get into the practice gym and work on some things and get back to basics a little bit.  We’ve had virtually zero practice time.  This is not unexpected when we’re trying to turnaround the defense for this season.  We’ve crept up in various standings but, again, the numbers don’t lie.  We’re not going to win games when our opponents shoots over 50% (from the field) and scores over 100% points.”

    On tinkering with lineups...
“I don’t know how (long) Charlie B (Bell)  is going to be out.  I don’t know if he tweaked his hamstring again.  Of course Michael (Redd) is coming back.  We’ll see.  You’ve got to find a way.  There’s playing time on this team that’s up for grabs and we’re trying to make that clear to guys for whoever wants to get with our program, defend.  There’s playing time to be had.  We’re searching.”

    Bell
    BUCKS GUARD CHARLIE BELL:

    On their defense...
“We’ve got to do better.  We’re giving up way too much dribble penetration causing guys to come in and collapse and they’re finding open guys.  We’ve got to do a better job containing the ball.  We haven’t been doing that, especially the last couple of games.”

    On Detroit...
“Especially with a team like Detroit.  They’re a good team.  Their crowd gets into it.  With good teams it’s hard to get those points back.  We made a run but sometimes when you’re playing some of the lesser, not-so-good, teams in the NBA you can make that up but a team like Detroit, at home, it’s tough.”
