MILWAUKEE, November 17 (AP) -- Andrew Bogut and Michael Redd each scored 21 points to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 105-96 victory over Atlanta on Saturday night, extending the Hawks' road losing streak to 17 games.

Atlanta's Josh Smith, who missed the game against Seattle with a left quadriceps strain, started at center against the Bucks and scored a career-high 38 points for the Hawks.

Joe Johnson added 14 for the Hawks, who have lost four of five and are 0-4 on the road this season. Their last road win was a 96-93 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Feb. 14.

Clinging to a one-point lead, Bogut tipped in a miss to put the Bucks ahead 97-94 with 2:37 left. Smith answered with a basket for the Hawks. Redd drove the lane and scored and after Joe Johnson missed from in close, Bogut made a layup on a pass from Mo Williams giving the Bucks a 101-96 lead with 1:14 left.

After Atlanta failed to score, Williams made two free throws with 33.4 seconds left and then stole an inbound pass and scored for the final margin.

Postgame News and Notes

Picture perfect: The Bucks remain undefeated at the Bradley Center (4-0), while they have yet to win a game outside of the Brew City (0-4). They get their next opportunity to become road warriors against the Cavaliers in Cleveland Tuesday night.

The Bucks are also perfect (4-0) when holding their opponents to under 100 points. Milwaukee is 0-4 when their opponents reach that mark, all on the road.

The Bucks bench tied its season-high for points this season with 37 tonight, snapping a streak of five games in which the reserves were outscored by the opposition’s.

Josh Smith’s career-best and game-high 38-point performance is only the second time a player has surpassed the 30-point plateau in a game featuring the Bucks this season. Michael Redd scored 31 against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday in Milwaukee.

Double duo: Andrew Bogut recorded his fourth double-double of the season (21 points, 10 rebounds), while teammate Mo Williams got his second (11 points, 10 assists).

After finishing the first quarter with a deficit for just the 3rd time this season, the Bucks outscored the Hawks 10-2 to regain the lead. Five Bucks reserve players (Gadzuric, Bell, Villanueva, Simmons, Ivey) manned the court the entire stretch.

Paint battle: The Bucks’ 64 points in the paint - including 42 in the first half - is a new season high. Their previous high was 54 in a loss to the Charlotte Bobcats (11/2/07).

The 58 points in the paint from Atlanta were the most surrendered to an opponent this season, also topping Charlotte (54).

The Bucks’ 34-point second quarter was the team’s highest of the season.

Board games: The Bucks have out-rebounded their opponents in 6 of 8 games this season, improving to 4-2 when they win the battle on the boards.

Six Bucks scored in double figures tonight, including a season-best 17 from Charlie Villanueva.

Larry Krystkowiak

(On what stood out to him about tonight’s game…)
“One of the things that really stood out is that I think Mike (Redd) stepped up late in the game and wanted to guard Joe Johnson and made some great offensive plays for us. I really liked the way that Mo (Williams) distributed the ball late in the game. He got Andrew (Bogut) a couple of looks. Ten assists, he’s almost at a triple double. He’s really starting to come into his own I think. It was tough. We had about four or five mindless turnovers where we kind of got ahead of ourselves and were throwing the ball all over the gym. We just kind of hung in there. We lost the momentum a couple of different times and then re-captured it when we needed to. It was a big win for us.”

(On Michael Redd’s defense and the process he’s gone through to improve...)
“He’s really doing a nice job defensively, team concept wise and one-on-one stuff. We grade out the film a lot of times with breakdowns, and he and a lot of our guys have made some progress. I think a lot of that process happened initially in the summer. Everybody in the world, on the planet, knows what his strength is. He can shoot the basketball. I think for him to take our team to the next level he had to distribute and he had to play some defense. I think his experience with the Olympic squad this summer really opened his eyes to that.”

(On the play of the reserves in tonight’s game…)
“I thought it was huge. Those guys have maybe been getting the short end of the stick a little bit coming in, usually coming in at the end of a quarter where we’ve lost a little momentum and they’re supposed to go out and stem the tide and it hasn’t happened that way. I thought it was a huge lift. That entire bomb squad that came in and kind of stirred things up. Both times that they got an extended run we got some energy in the building and that was excited as the fans got, and certainly the rest of our bench enjoyed it. We want to see those guys and we’re going to need those guys throughout the course of the year.”

Charlie Villanueva

(On his energy off the bench…)
“I just tried to come off with the same energy that I had in the Memphis game. The bench played tremendous today. Bobby (Simmons) played well, Charlie Bell, Royal Ivey got some good minutes, Danny G—and that’s what we need from our bench. That’s what I like about our team, it’s going to be different guys every night.”

(On the team’s defensive performance…)
“Guys played defense together. Some games last year were a let down and we’d give in. This year that’s not our mindset. Guys are playing well, we’re playing together as a team defensively and we had some huge stops down the stretch.”

Michael Redd

(On the defensive performance in the second half…)
“We just wanted to win at home. We shouldn’t lose at home at all. We should defend our home court. We knew Atlanta was playing good basketball, so we just wanted to get a win.”

(On the bench play in tonight’s game…)
“The bench was terrific tonight. They really played well and came in here gave us a lot of energy. They kept the momentum going for us.”
