Bucks Name Smyczek Director of Public Relations
June 4, 2007 - Dan Smyczek has been named Director of Public Relations of the Milwaukee Bucks, the team announced Monday. Smyczek recently completed his 10th season in the Bucks public relations department. He will assume his new responsibilities as of June 14.
Smyczek succeeds Cheri Hanson, who has accepted the position of Vice President of Communications with the Portland Trail Blazers. Hanson has been with the Bucks for eight seasons, having joined the team in 1999.
Smyczek was promoted to Public Relations Manager in 2004, after serving as Assistant Director since 1999. He joined the Bucks in 1997 as a publicity assistant. He has worked with five Bucks head coaches and three general managers. He has assisted the league at three NBA All-Star Games and at the 2006 NBA Finals in Miami. He has served the Bucks during six post-season appearances, including the Bucks appearance in the 2001 NBA Eastern Conference Finals.
A native of Milwaukee, Smyczek graduated from Marquette University High School and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Prior to joining the Bucks, he served on the Washington, D.C. staff of U.S. Senator Herb Kohl from 1993-1997.
