Logo/Color Announcement
Bucks Training Center - June 28, 2006
You can tell that we don’t have much going on, since I’m down here during the draft [laughs]. Thanks for coming. It’s a big day for myself and for the organization. I brought out two important players of the franchise for the future – Michael [Redd] and Bobby [Simmons] are here.
It’s going to be the third logo change in 38 years. It’s a process we began two years ago along with the NBA, my staff. Senator Kohl gave input and [so did] the marketing people here with the Bucks. What we’re about to reveal is a new color scheme and logo. We’re going back a little ways with the colors, but I think we’re moving forward. I’m excited about the opportunities that it’s going to bring about in the marketing and merchandising department. We have a couple other things to talk about, but, would Bobby and Michael take that green lovely hanging off! We’ll show you where the Bucks in 06-07 are headed.
[Logo and colors revealed. Music plays …]
We’re going to ask Michael and Bobby to start dancing. They didn’t know I was going to put that on them [laughs]. We have dancers. We have the whole nine yards. We have Bango and Energee!
On the previous logo, we had a little bit of an alteration. What we’ve done here is ... we brought [the words "Bucks] down to a shield because we are feistier and forceful. We added the color red ... we got rid of the purple. We have three colors. The three primary colors are red, green and silver. I know a lot of you are into PMS colors – Red is 187, Forest Green 350, Silver is 177. For those of you that are going home tonight and want to put something together, this is what it looks like (points to the logo).
This is the new and improved. We are excited about the logo and, on top of that, the NBA is adding a new ball. Each player in the NBA received one with their name engraved on it. It was something given to us during the rules and competitions committee meeting in January last year. They knew they were coming out at the end of the season. Michael and the rest of the players got a test of the ball in the playoffs. Whenever you’re doing something like this it’s not just one entity making a decision. They had Reggie Miller, Marc Jackson and some other current and former pros work through the ball and transition of it. It’s only a four panel. We were the only basketball organization not playing with a composite ball. The NBA was playing with a true leather ball. They felt it needed to be more durable. Michael said he believes more three pointers will go in with this ball and Bobby has no problem posting with that ball [laughs]. Again, we are excited about it.
{Referring back to the logo/color change ...)
I’m glad to be apart of it – three logo changes in 38 years. It’s been a long two years. I can’t say enough about Senator Kohl branching out and wanting to do some new things.
The floor is going to change at the Bradley Center and [at the Training Center]. I think you’re going to like that. It’s not going to be one true color. There are going to be some changes there. We anticipate the jerseys coming out in September, so we’re going to do this again and try to recreate tonight.
The court redesign will be in July. You will not see that in the Bradley Center until September. This [practice court] won’t be done until the third week in July.
I think the silver is really going to pop off the floor and off the jerseys. We’re going to have home and road jerseys. There are going to be some similarities to what we’ve had in the past. Going back to deal with the history and moving forward is ... the way the uniforms should be. The red is representative – it’s hard. It’s a little bit deeper red. It’s not Wisconsin Red. It's darker than that.
