Bogut Named To NBA All-Rookie First Team

May 4, 2006 - Milwaukee Bucks rookie Andrew Bogut has been named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team, the NBA announced today. Bogut joins David Robinson, Chris Webber and Tim Duncan as just the fourth number one overall pick since 1985 to help lead his team to the NBA Playoffs in his rookie season.

Joining Bogut on the All-Rookie First Team are Hornets guard Chris Paul, Raptors forward Charlie Villanueva, Jazz guard Deron Williams and Knickerbockers forward Channing Frye. Bogut was the only member of the All-Rookie First Team to make the Playoffs.

The number one overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, Bogut led all rookies in rebounds (7.0), field goal percentage (.533) and blocks (.83), while adding 9.4 points and 2.3 assists in 28.6 minutes per game. Bogut finished 5th in the entire NBA in field goal percentage, connecting on 323 of 606 attempts.

Off the court, Bogut starred as well and wasted no time getting involved with the Milwaukee community. Immediately after the draft he took part in the Milwaukee Bucks Basketball Show at Summerfest and spoke to over five thousand attendees at the Summerfest Opening Ceremony on June 30. Andrew was also active in the Bucks-NBA Read to Achieve program and made several reading appearances, including the November 10 event for 1,900 students at the Milwaukee Art Museum and the December 19 Bucks Tip-Off Reading Challenge event at the Milwaukee Central Library. Bogut made a visit to Milwaukee Children's Hospital in conjunction with his Andrew Bogut Foundation for children in Milwaukee and Australia and was part of the Bucks annual MACC Fund Children's Hospital Holiday Visit. In April, Bogut helped headline the Bucks Annual YMCA Youth Basketball Clinic at the Bucks Training Center.

The NBA All-Rookie Second Team consists of Pacers forward Danny Granger, Bobcats guard Raymond Felton, Rockets guard Luther Head, Hawks forward Marvin Williams and Celtics forward Ryan Gomes.

The voting panel consisted of the NBA’s 30 head coaches who were asked to select five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Two points were awarded for first team votes and one for second team votes.
