Q&A With General Manager Larry Harris

Bucks.com caught up with an enthusiastic Larry Harris just hours after the Milwaukee Bucks won the top pick in the 2005 NBA Draft. The Bucks had just a 6.3 percent chance of landing the number one pick, but beat the odds to take home the "big catch":

Bucks.com: What was the absolute first thing that came to your mind when you saw Utah flipped over at #6? When you knew you had at least a Top 3?

Larry Harris: I thought, "Oh my goodness, we have a shot here." I couldn't believe it. I thought, "That isn't the Bucks logo." We were eye level with where the picks were being shown and I said, "That isn't our logo! We have got a definite chance here!"

B.com: What was the absolute first thing that came to your mind when you saw Atlanta flipped over at #2, knowing then that you had sealed the first pick?

LH: Oh gosh. You know what, to be honest, I know it sounds kind of goofy, but there was really an emotion of happiness almost to the point of crying. It was like nothing I ever expected. I was nervous and my hands were shaking. I got choked up. I thought, “I cannot believe this just happened.” I knew what all of it meant to the city of Milwaukee, to the fans, the players and to our entire organization.

B.com: What did you do today? Anything special?

LH: I’d love to tell you that I did all of these superstitious things. But honestly, I had lunch, made some phone calls, changed, got in the car, waited around and then took my seat on stage. All I did was reach into my pocket and touch three things: "Little Cleo", the bracelet and a wooden rooster that some other person gave me.

B.com: Did you carry the lucky charms with you on the plane or did you put them in your travel bag?

LH: On the plane. They were sealed in an envelope in my carry-on bag. I didn’t take them out until we landed. I didn't want to lose them.

B.com: Rumor has it that you own a lucky tie. Were you wearing that tonight?

LH: I wore a new suit tonight, actually. I decided to kind of change the "mojo" since we didn’t have the season we wanted. It was like a new beginning.

The Bucks will live out their good fortune when they pick first in the 2005 NBA Draft on June 28. Stay tuned to Bucks.com for complete draft coverage!
