Davis Dish: Bucks vs Sixers Recap

Head Coach Scott Skiles

On tonight’s game…
“We were clearly fatigued, that was obvious. We weren’t as sharp as we’ve been in games recently but we were able to get the win. It’s much better to get the win on a night like (tonight) than it is to lose the game. But I thought Charlie Bell had a nice effort and Ersan (Ilyasova) came in and gave us a lift. We were able to make just enough plays to win the game.”

On the end of the game…
“Late in the game when balls are bouncing around we have to have those. We had some bounces that didn’t go our way as well. We missed some free throws, we had a lot of things not going our way but we were still able to get (the win). With all the close games that we’ve lost we’ve got to take this one.”

On playing the back end of a back-to-back…
“They looked a little bit like they were lacking some energy as well. We looked like, for one of the first times, like we were really fatigued from a game the night before. Normally we’ve been able to shake that off, and it I think it’s understandable, we had a tough loss last night where we played really hard and really well.”

Guard Brandon Jennings

On the end of the game…
“Elton Brand had a good look under the basket but he missed the lay-up, so that took a whole lot of relief out of me. I was like ‘Oh boy here we go again’ but he missed the lay-up and we came out with the win.”

On tonight’s game…

“The energy was kind of down on both teams, we were playing sloppy and they were playing sloppy. It looked like a high school game in the beginning because everything was so back and forth, back and forth, and nobody was really making anything.”

Guard Charlie Bell

On the end of the game…
“Eventually the ball is going to bounce our way, and tonight it did. We’ve been on the short end of at least five or six shots this season. For somebody to miss a point-blank lay-up is a breath of fresh air, we dodged a bullet. We’re very fortunate he missed it and very fortunate to get the win.”

On the upcoming schedule…
“Before the All-Star break we feel like we’ve got a lot of games that we can win. Dallas would have been great but tonight was one of them, Miami is coming here on Saturday and that’s a team that’s playing well, we’ve got to get that one. Then going on the road for three games, we’ve got to take care of home before you go on the road.”

OFFENSIVE OUTBURST – The Bucks have been on an offensive outburst, scoring at least 95 points per game in each of their last nine games, including six 100-point performances. The Bucks have shot better than 50 percent in both of the last two games and are shooting 55.6 percent (89-160) from the field, including 48.8 from three-point land (20-41) and 83.7 from the line (36-43) in the last two. They’ve now shot 80 percent or better from the charity stripe in four straight games, going 74-87 (.851) in those four. In the last two, Andrew Bogut has made 90 percent of his field goals (18-20) and 83.3 percent of his free throws (10-12) while Carlos Delfino has connected on 73.9 percent (17-23) from the field, with both players averaging 23.0 points in the last two games.

CARLOS DEL-3-NO – Carlos Delfino is making a name for himself in his last seven, but some might pronounce his name Del-THREE-no as he is averaging 3.1 threes in that time and has reached double-figures in six of his last seven games, including four 20-plus point efforts. The stretch includes a career-best 28 points on Jan 16 at Utah, his second career double-double (11 points and 10 rebounds) at Houston on Jan 18, a career-high tying 11 rebounds at Toronto on Jan 22 and a near triple-double (24 points, eight rebounds and a career-high eight assists) against Minnesota on Saturday. Over his last seven, Delfino is putting up 18.3 points along with 7.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 54.0 percent from the floor (47-87) and 47.8 from three-point land (22-46).

FOUR STRAIGHT AT 4TH AND STATE – The Bucks are on a four-game home winning streak, matching their longest win streak of the season at the Bradley Center. The streak puts the Bucks at 4-0 at the BC in 2010, their best start to a decade at home in franchise history. Andrew Bogut has paved the way for Milwaukee in those four, averaging 22.8 points and 11.5 rebounds to go with 3.8 blocks. Carlos Delfino has averaged 15.3 points in three games and Brandon Jennings is dishing out 8.0 assists in the last four at the BC. See the stat box to the right for more.

LOOKOUT FOR LUKE – Be on the lookout for Bucks guard Luke Ridnour, who is in the midst of a career year off the bench. Ridnour is averaging 13.5 points and 4.3 assists while shooting 47.9 percent from the field (80-167), 45.7 percent from three-point range (21-46) and 95.0 percent from the line (35-37) in the last 16 games and has scored double-figures in 15 of the 16 games. On the season, he has posted a 2.90:1 (174:60) assist-to-turnover ratio, 12th in the NBA. He’s fourth among reserves with 11.8 points and his 4.0 assists are second (both stats are among players with at least 40 games in reserve). Ridnour’s scoring average, field goal percentage (.495), three-point percentage (.406) and free throw percentage (.915) would all represent career-highs for the Oregon alum, despite playing just 22.8 minutes per game, the fifth lowest in his seven-year career. His shooting percentage would eclipse his previous career-high 6.2 percent (formerly .433 set with Seattle in 2006-07).

JENNINGS JOTTINGS – Over the last six games, Bucks rookie Brandon Jennings has averaged a team-high 7.7 assists with a 4.60:1 assist-to-turnover ratio (46:10). Jennings has 82 three-pointers this season (10th in the NBA) for an average of 1.9 per game (tied for 12th). Ray Allen holds the Bucks rookie record for threes with 117 (1996-97). Jennings (269 assists) is also just 103 assists away from Quinn Buckner’s rookie record (372) set in 1976-77.

  • Andrew Bogut tallied a career-best 32 points last night in Dallas, besting his previous high of 31 set on December 21 in Indiana. Bogut had a perfect first half, scoring 20 points on 9-9 from the field and 2-2 from the free throw line. Milwaukee is now 12-4 this season when Andrew Bogut scores 17 points or more.

  • It’s been no rest, no problem for the Bucks, who are 5-4 in the second half of back-to-back sets (4-2 at home).

  • Milwaukee is averaging 107.1 points over their last eight games, 8.3 over their season average.

  • Dan Gadzuric is one of 47 players represented by the Wasserman Media Group to make a contribution to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund to help restore the lives of the Haitian earthquake survivors.

  • The Bucks bench is off to a great start in 2010, outscoring opposing benches in 10 of the 13 games to start the new year. In total, Milwaukee’s reserves hold a 43.0-30.5 advantage (559-397) over opposing subs in 2010, with Luke Ridnour’s 13.1 points per game leading the reserves (third-best on the team in ’10).

  • Tonight’s game marks the 1,800th Bucks regular season and playoff home game that Vice President – Business Operations John Steinmiller has worked in his 40 seasons with the organization.

  • Milwaukee has won the fourth quarter in 11 of 13 games in 2010 averaging 27.7-24.2 (360-314).

  • Hakim Warrick (348) is two games away from reaching 350 for his career.
