Deadliest Catch Milwaukee - with John Henson
Last year John Henson told us one of the first things he wanted to do when he arrived in Wisconsin after being drafted fourteenth overall by the Bucks in the 2012 NBA Draft was head up to Green Bay to tour historic Lambeau Field. He didn't want to make the trip alone, so he brought a lucky Bucks fan, Cassidy, along to watch practice and get a behind the scenes look at Lambeau.
This year, John wanted to fish.
John's dad first taught him how to fish when he was a kid and to this day it's something he truly enjoys. Typically John fishes small lakes in Florida, but having not experienced Wisconsin fishing until this summer he wanted to head out onto Lake Michigan and fish for salmon and lake trout. And once again, John wanted to take a Bucks fan along with him.
"I was so excited when I got the call," said Dan, the winner of John's Fishing Experience. "Of course I had to check with my boss," he said referring to his wife and two young children. "But there was no way I was missing out on this once in a lifetime opportunity."
The two boarded Captain Jason Woda's Reel Sensation Charter at 5am on a calm Sunday morning. It didn't take long for the laughter to begin and the fish to start biting. Between jokes about the flock of swans that passed by the boat on the way out and episodes of The Deadliest Catch, the two fishermen reeled in eight fish, a mix of coho salmon and lake trout.
I'm not sure how many pro athletes get up before dawn and take a fan fishing, but I'm guessing the number is fewer than the number of fish Dan and John reeled in.
