Peterson's Points: March 4 vs. Phoenix

The Bucks (23-36) battle the Suns (31-28) tonight at the Bradley Center in a 7:30 p.m. tilt. Bucks assistant coach Bill Peterson gave us three points for the Bucks in tonight’s game. After each of Peterson’s points, we’ll give you a few details about the point.

One "We definitely have to get back and stop their transition offense. We can’t allow them to get a lot of easy baskets in the flow of the game or let them shoot easy layups or jumpers on the break."
arrow Phoenix is 13th in the NBA with 14.2 fast break points per game. In the first meeting Milwaukee held Phoenix to nine fast break points (the same as the Bucks). However, the Suns did have 46 points in the paint compared to 18 for the Bucks. So the Suns did get some good looks at the hoop.

Two "We need to do a good job of staying in front of Steve Nash. We can’t let him get easy looks at the basket or easy passes to teammates for baskets."
arrow Nash’s final line in the first meeting was nine points, 13 assists and six rebounds. He also had a season-high tying nine turnovers in the game. So there was good and bad in Nash’s performance. Although the nine turnovers are high, he did have 13 assists, the club had 46 points in the paint and Phoenix shot 50.0 percent for the game.

Three "We need to get out on their 3-point shooters. They have a lot of good 3-point shooters, Nash being one of them. Channing Frye and Jared Dudley are others. We have to get to their 3-point shooters and keep them off that line. We can’t allow them to stroke 3-pointers in our face."
arrow Phoenix shot 3-13 in the first meeting. Those three 3-pointers equal the club’s season low and the 13 attempts are one off the season low. Milwaukee has to contend with Channing Frye (126-323, 39.0 percent), Jared Dudley (74-185, 40.0) and Steve Nash (64-168, 38.1) as the Suns main 3-point threats but as a team they shoot 38.0 percent, which is fourth in the NBA. They make 6.9 3-pointers per game, eighth in the league and Channing Frye’s 126 makes are fifth in the league.
