The Bucks opened the week with a 118-109 home triumph over Phoenix on Jan. 5, getting a game-high 34 points from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, 29 points from Lucius Allen and 21 points off the bench from Ron “Fritz” Williams. Dick Van Arsdale scored 22 points to pace the Suns, who got 21 points from Charlie Scott and 18 from Corky Calhoun. … The Bucks dropped a 90-88 road decision to the Capital Bullets on Jan. 6. Phil Chenier poured in a game-high 31 points for the winners, who also got 22 points from Elvin Hayes and 15 from Mike Riordan. Abdul-Jabbar led Milwaukee with 25 points, Mickey Davis tallied 22 and Cornell Warner chipped in with 15. … Milwaukee avenged its loss to the Bullets with a 115-113 home-court victory Jan. 11. Abdul-Jabbar had his second 34-point outing of the week, Curtis Perry contributed 23 points and Allen added 15. For the Bullets, Chenier duplicated his 31-point outburst of five days earlier, Hayes scored 27 points and Kevin Porter had 16.

Milwaukee began a difficult week with a 103-102 overtime defeat to visiting Philadelphia. Junior Bridgeman led all scorers with 31 points, Bob Lanier totaled 20 and Paul Pressey added 17 for the Bucks. The 76ers got 28 points from Moses Malone and 20 apiece from Mo Cheeks and Andrew Toney. … The Bucks dropped another close one 91-87 at Atlanta on Jan. 6. Dominique Wilkins collected game highs of 24 points and 13 rebounds, Eddie Johnson had 14 points and seven assists and Doc Rivers scored 11 points for the Hawks. Bridgeman led Milwaukee for the second straight game with 23 points. … Detroit came into Milwaukee and dealt the Bucks a 111-100 setback Jan. 8 as Isiah Thomas came up with 29 points and 10 assists, Kelly Tripucka scored 24 points and Bill Laimbeer had a 16-point, 16-rebound double-double. Sidney Moncrief had team highs of 24 points and 15 rebounds for the Bucks, who got 20 points from Lanier and 13 from Bridgeman. … World B.
