The Bucks 15th Annual Cystic Fibrosis golf event in conjunction with PCC was a great success on Monday. The weather was spectacular which always sets the tone of the day.
Head Golf Pro Rich Tock and his crew at Ozaukee Country Club were at their best as usual, making everyone feel very welcome. The golf course is one of the best in the state.
It was great to see a large contingent of past and current Bucks players at the event. Bob Dandridge and Brian Winters were the first two I ran into. Dick Garrett and Sam Williams played, as did Fred Roberts. The “Original Voice of the Bucks” Eddie Doucette always tries to make the journey from his home in California to take part. It’s great to see them all.
I was very impressed with a group of new players that made the rounds on the course to say hello. Charlie Villanueva, Lynn Greer and Michael Harris were friendly and gracious as they greeted the golfers.
DJ Martin and his group from PCC staged another great day. They had plenty of food sponsors on the course with the highlights being Palermo’s Pizza and a fantastic steak sandwich from Milwaukee’s new Capitol Grille. Pepsi and Miller provided beverages again this year. Thanks to all of the event sponsors and donors.
As if that wasn’t enough, Ozaukee Country Club prepared wonderful grilled fish, chicken and steaks for dinner.
Every year, Jon McGlocklin, Ted Davis and I help Oostburg auctioneer Daven Clarebout raise money for Cystic Fibrosis with some outstanding live auction items. This year the total surpassed 23-thousand dollars. Over the 15 years of this event, the Bucks and PCC have helped raise well over 700-thousand dollars in an effort to find a cure for CF.
Congratulations to everyone who took part.

The Final Laps of Summer
If you can tell me what former Buck Derek Strong is up to these days, you are the new reigning NBA trivia champion. Here’s a chronological hint: USBL – CBA – NBA – ASA.
Believe it or not, D-Strong is into auto racing. Derek made his ASA Late Model driving debut at New York’s Adirondack International Speedway on August 12th. The 6-9 oval pilot spun out on lap 111 in his first race, but is getting a lot of attention on the circuit.
Derek played for the Bucks during the 92-93 and 93-94 seasons. You may recall he wore number 20 in Milwaukee. Today, he races in number 41.
Strong played for six NBA teams, after stints in the USBL, the CBA, and Europe. Derek wore the uniforms of Washington, Milwaukee, Boston, Lakers, Orlando and the Clippers during his NBA career.
He started wearing fireproof suits in 2003 racing across the state of Florida.
Strong’s ASA scheduled included the Milwaukee Mile in late August this year.
Birth of a Salesman
Another former Buck, and one of my personal favorites, surfaced in a new environment this summer.
One day I was pleasantly interrupted in my Bradley Center office by the familiar voice of Fred Roberts. Fred and his soon to be married son Rick stopped by to say hello. Fred was in town from Utah to take part in the annual Northwestern Mutual Life gathering at the Bradley Center.
Fred still has his eye on a coaching career, but is entertaining the benefits of a career in life underwriting. If he chooses to join NML’s team, we’ll be happy to see him every summer.
Four of a rare kind
I leave you with a question. Can you name another state that has the same jersey/uniform number in at least three major sports that will never be worn again?
Sidney Moncrief, Paul Molitor and certainly Brett Favre will make it a “4” of the rarest kind in Wisconsin.
Milwaukee native Rob Peterson of nba.com pointed this one out. (I told him thanks, as I need exceptional material to compete with Dennis Krause’s Bucks blog)
