What a great opening day at Summerfest. We had a big crowd as usual for our first ”Bucks Experience” show on Thursday. Terry Stotts stopped by to lead off the program and Mo Williams had a great time competing with Bango’s teams in the various drills and relays for the kids. Come and see us at 1:00 every weekday during the fest with the exception of July 4th.
The weather was magnificent and we finished well before the power outage. It was strange being at Summerfest without music for a couple of hours. I think people actually enjoyed chilling and just talking at normal volume. Everyone was very understanding.
I was wearing a T-shirt with the new Bucks logo, and was stopped repeatedly by people telling me they love the change, and by many others who wanted to know where they could get the new gear. One young fan offered to give me the Miller shirt off his back in exchange for mine. I know many people go shirtless on the grounds, but I wouldn’t consider that even for a couple of seconds. I still have my shirt.
I learned something about new Bucks coach Larry Krystkowiak that I didn’t know. One of the members of Pearl jam is a good friend of his, so Larry had a special re-introduction to Summerfest this year as the band opened for Tom Petty.
I promised a picture from my recent trip to the Grand Canyon. I was driving through southwestern Missouri when I saw a sign that I couldn’t pass up. We took a short detour to take the picture. That’s my son Michael with me, and yes, Coach Stotts has made the same detour in the past to visit “his” city.

It’s time for Summerfest! The Bucks will be part of “The Big Gig” for the 34th straight year. Consider this a personal invitation to take in our “Bucks Experience” shows at 1:00 on June 28, 29 and July 3, 5,6,7 at the Summerfest Sports Zone. I’ll be there each of those days with Bango, Energee! and Super Force. Mo Williams will join us for the first three shows and Charlie Bell will be in Milwaukee for the second half of Summerfest this season.
The Bucks 2006 NBA Draft was a big success. Larry Harris has done it again by selecting an athletic small forward that plays defense. David Noel from North Carolina reminds some of Desmond Mason in terms of character and athleticism. Larry Harris noted on Draft night that Noel scored a perfect ten on part of his psychological test. The Bucks also made a trade to acquire 6-10 Damir Markota of Croatia in the second round. He is a friend of Andrew Bogut and is a power forward that shoots well enough to stretch the court offensively.
Early fan reaction to the Bucks new logo and color scheme is what we expected. Over 60% of the respondents on bucks.com love the new look. It is a metaphor for the franchise, traditional yet constantly evolving.
Come see us at Summerfest. By the way, I just returned from a trip to the Grand Canyon. I have an interesting picture I’ll share with you in my next blog update.
