“When Fathers Read - Fathers Lead”

Rules for Essay Initiative
Essay Subject:
Tell us the story of your father role models--- Fathers, grandfathers, uncles, cousins, brothers or BIG BROTHER MENTOR reading with you, encouraging you to read and do well in school. Tell us all about how your father role model has influenced your life.
1. Essay should be 200 to 500 words
2. Participating grades: 3,4,5
3. Essays submitted selected by classroom teachers
4. Two (2) essays per classroom in each grade per school submitted to Sam’s Hope Literacy Foundation, Barbara Garner, for final selections by “review board”.
5. Each month for the Initiative Period submissions selected. Please send in no later than the 5th of each month beginning in November.
6. Each classroom may submit only one essay per child for the entire time period of the initiative.
7. Each month of the Initiative Period one essay per grade from all MPS schools will be featured on the BUCKS website.
8. Authors from all of the “featured” essays will be the special guests of the Milwaukee Bucks at one of their March or April games.
9. Rewards given each month for each selected essay.
10. All participating MPS schools with 90% submissions will be pooled together for a raffle pick for a BANGO PEP RALLY at the selected school.
11. All essays in its original format will be submitted to Sam’s Hope for a feature media story based on those essays.
12. Each monthly story submission is preferred on a school submitted disc sent to Sam’s Hope. If this is not possible a hard copy of the student selected essays may be sent to the offices of Sam’s Hope, 3900 W. Brown Deer Road, Milwaukee, WI. 53209.

“Pictorial” Essay Subject:

1. Essay should be a Single Drawing
2. Participating grades: 1 & 2
3. “Pictorial” Essays submitted selected by classroom teachers
4. Two (2) “Pictorial” essays per classroom in each grade per school submitted to Sam’s Hope Literacy Foundation, Barbara Garner, for final selections by “review board”.
