O Detroit Pistons receberam uma homenagem na Casa Branca no dia 31 de janeiro como tributo ao título da NBA que ganharam em 2004. Para muitos integrantes da equipe campeã do campeonato da NBA de 2004 foi a primeira visita, mas dois jogadores já haviam vivido este momento especial: Richard Hamilton e Lindsey Hunter.

“Sempre é divertido ganhar um campeonato. Você tem a oportunidade de conhecer o presidente dos EUA e visitar a Casa Branca”, comentou. “Definitivamente é uma grande experiência. Esta é a segunda vez que ganho um campeonato da NBA, assim que esta é a segunda vez que posso visitar a Casa Branca, é uma honra pessoal e também um orgulho para a minha família”.

O ex-presidente dos Estados Unidos, Bill Clinton, foi quem recebeu o Hamilton quando este visitou pela primeira vez a Casa Branca.

“As medidas de segurança foram incríveis, uma loucura”, disse Hamilton. “Depois visitamos toda a Casa Branca e finalmente conhecemos o Presidente, todo um acontecimento”.
