O Nash, em sua segunda temporada com os Suns depois de jogar com o Dallas Mavericks, recebeu 924 pontos, incluindo 57 de primeiro lugar. Na votação na qual participaram 127 jornalistas dos Estados Unidos e do Canadá, cada jogador recebeu 10 pontos a cada voto de primeiro lugar, sete a segundo, cinco a terceiro, três a quarto e um a quinto.

Seguindo o Nash na votação estavam o LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers/688 pontos), o Dirk Nowitzki (Dallas Mavericks/544), o Kobe Bryant (Los Ángeles Lakers/483) e o Chauncey Billups (Detroit Pistons/430).

O Nash teve a média mais alta da sua carreira em pontuação (18.8), rebotes (4.2), minutos de jogo (35.5), porcentagem anotadora (.512) e porcentagem de lance livre (.921). Ele teve um aumento de 3.3 pontos com respeito a temporada anterior, o segundo recorde mais alto depois de ganhar o troféu de MVP, só superado pelo Larry Bird com 4.5 pontos por partida na temporada de 1984-85.

O Nash guiou os Suns em seu segundo título consecutivo da Divisão do Pacífico com a média mais alta da liga (1084 pontos por partida), apesar da ausência de três dos jogadores mais anotadores da temporada anterior: Amare Stoudemire (lesão), Quentin Richardson (troca com os Knicks) e Joe Johnson (troca com os Hawks).
