- Top players from Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Puerto Rico to Take Part in Brazil Camp -

NEW YORK, Sept. 14, 2010 – The National Basketball Association (NBA) today announced the 40 top athletes – 10 each from Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Puerto Rico – who will participate in the NBA’s Americas Team Camp presented by Nike, a basketball instructional camp directed by NBA legends and coaches taking place from Sept. 23 to 26 at Marina Barra Clube in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Nike, the NBA, and participating basketball federations selected players (17 and under) representing four countries across the Americas and the Caribbean - including 10 from Brazil – based on their basketball skills, leadership abilities, and dedication to the sport.

Americas Team Camp presented by Nike will feature NBA Legends Bruce Bowen, Ron Harper, and Dee Brown as participants. Gordon Chiesa, director of professional scouting for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies following 15 years as an assistant coach for the Utah Jazz, and Miles Simon, former NBA player and college assistant coach at the University of Arizona, will act as camp coaches. Dee Brown, winner of the Sprite Slam Dunk contest with a "no-look" slam dunk in 1991, will be camp director.

In addition to basketball instruction, NBA legends and camp coaches – working through NBA Cares, the league’s social responsibility initiative – will lead daily life-skills sessions focusing on the importance of education, leadership, character development, health, and wellness. To further promote the sport of basketball in the region, the NBA has also invited 14 basketball coaches from Latin America, selected by FIBA Americas, to observe the camp and participate in coaching sessions.

Nike, the camp’s presenting partner, will outfit the campers and coaches with Nike apparel while HP will serve as an associate marketing partner and CBB as an organizational partner for the Americas Team Camp. Spalding will be providing basketball and equipment needed for the camp.
