NEW YORK, Sept. 09, 2010 – NBA Legends Bruce Bowen, Ron Harper, and Dee Brown will headline the first-ever NBA’s Americas Team Camp presented by Nike, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from Sept. 23 to 26, the National Basketball Association (NBA) announced today.

NBA’s Americas Team Camp presented by Nike will unite the top 40 youth basketball players (10 from each country) from Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Puerto Rico for four days of intense basketball drills and competition directed by NBA legends and coaches. Nike, the NBA, and participating federations are selecting the campers, who will also participate in daily life skills seminars. Nike, the camp’s presenting partner, will outfit the campers and coaches with Nike apparel.

“NBA’s Americas Team Camp is part of the league’s initiative to grow the game of basketball in Latin America,” said NBA Vice President for Latin America Philippe Moggio. “Thanks to the support of our partners Nike and HP, elite youth basketball players from the region will have access to the highest level of basketball instruction by our NBA legends and coaches in this phenomenal instructional camp that combines the sport of basketball with education.”

Joining the NBA legends as camp coaches will be Gordon Chiesa, director of professional scouting for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies following 15 years as an assistant coach for the Utah Jazz, and Miles Simon, former NBA player and college assistant coach (Arizona). Dee Brown, winner of the NBA Slam Dunk Contest with a "no-look" slam dunk in 1991, will oversee as camp director. To further promote the sport of basketball in the region, ten basketball coaches from Latin America selected by FIBA Americas will be invited to observe the camp and participate in coaching sessions.

“NBA’s Americas Team Camp presented by Nike teaches top talent in the region to develop proficient teamwork, sportsmanship, and basketball skills while interacting with and learning from the best in the world,” said Lynn Merritt, Vice President, Global Basketball Sports Marketing for Nike. “We are proud to work with the NBA to promote these vital values to the young campers.”

HP will serve as an associate marketing partner and CBB as an organizational partner for the Americas Team Camp, which will be hosted at the Marina Barra Clube in Rio de Janeiro.
