Gerald Wallace Continues Bobcats’ Season Of Giving

Saturday was a big day for the Bobcats, the 17,320 fans who crowded into the Charlotte Coliseum and, in particular, for a 13-year-old boy who had an especially big night.

Jerry Bowens, an underprivileged Charlotte student who is a gifted public speaker and a big Bobcats fan, met forward Gerald Wallace and General Manager & Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff after the team’s 101-100 overtime victory over the Houston Rockets. And he and his family went home with a number of holiday celebration gifts from Wallace.

“He has written letters to me,” Wallace said of Bowens. “This is one of those things where you have a boy who hasn’t been as fortunate as some of us have. I just wanted to help him have a great Christmas.”

Bowens attended the game with his mother, Tracey Green, his stepfather and 10-year-old sister. Wallace and Bickerstaff met with them near the court about 30 minutes after Charlotte secured its fifth straight home victory.

Among the gifts they took home: an electric keyboard (Bowens plays the piano), clothing items including pants, shirts, jeans and a winter coat and hat and a Bobcats gift bag with numerous team souvenir items.
