Wallace Named Best In The East For Past Week

Charlotte Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace today was selected by the NBA as Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the week ending January 20.

The honor is Wallace’s fourth, joining previous awards for the weeks ending November 28, 2005; March 25, 2007; and April 8, 2007. Golden State Warriors guard Baron Davis received the Western Conference award.

Wallace averaged 29.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 3.0 steals and 1.0 blocked shot during the week’s four games, leading the Bobcats to a 3-1 record that included wins over division leaders Denver and Orlando.

Wallace posted a Bobcats season-high 40 points in the January 14 win over the Nuggets, tallying the fourth 40-point game in franchise history, all by him. He followed that up by scoring 36 points and tying a career high with 14 rebounds in the January 16 win over the Magic.

The 76 points in consecutive games marked a Bobcats franchise record for a two-game span. In Saturday’s win over Memphis, Wallace tallied 28 points, seven rebounds, six assists and an NBA season-high-tying seven steals.

The seventh-year man out of Alabama currently leads Charlotte in scoring (21.4 points) and steals (2.18), while ranking second in rebounds (6.2) and blocks (0.98) and third in assists (3.4). Wallace is also connecting on 45.8 percent of his shots from the field and connecting on career-bests in 3-point shooting (.326) and free throw shooting (.731).
