The Bobcats impressed on the opening day of the Orlando Summer League, combining their experience with a solid showing from Charlotte’s two 2007 draft picks to knock off the Heat 88-74 at the RDV Sportsplex.

Veterans Ryan Hollins (15 points), Raymond Felton (14) and Adam Morrison (14) combined for 48.8 percent of the Bobcats points as Charlotte rolled to the win. Felton also showed poise running the point, dishing out eight assists in 28 minutes, while turning the ball over just two times.

Rookies Jermareo Davidson (36th overall pick) and Jared Dudley (22nd overall pick) impressed as well, with Davidson leading Charlotte with 16 points on 7-11 shooting from the field and Dudley hauling down a team-high six rebounds and adding eight points in 21 minutes of action.

With the Bobcats vets gelling well with the newcomers, Charlotte jumped out to a 15-12 lead after the first quarter and built 43-32 lead at halftime, which proved to be plenty of cushion in the second half.

Aside from Charlotte’s starting five, no other Bobcats player connected on more than one field goal. However, Gabe Muoneke did lead the reserves with seven points after getting to the free throw line six times and connecting on five freebies.

In what many Bobcats fans are hoping will be a sign of things to come in the 2007-08 season with the squad that is being assembled, Charlotte was off and running in Orlando, outscoring the Heat 13-5 on the break.

Jeremy Richardson led the Heat with 17 points, followed by Daequan Cook with 13 and Chris Quinn with 12 more.

The Bobcats will next take on Chicago in the third game on Tuesday, with tipoff expected at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the RDV Sportsplex. You can catch all your Bobcats action right here live.
