(On the purpose of playing in the summer league)
Just to show my leadership and come out here and get some work in to get a feel for what coach wants in his offense. It also gives me a chance to spend time with some of the guys.
They’re going to be my teammates and probably going to get some playing time. We’re going to get used to what they can do. Dudley is the type of guy who can do everything really. He can defend, he can shoot it, he can handle it, and he can rebound. I like his game. And Jermareo, he’s just very athletic. He can shoot the mid-range jumper and he’s just athletic.
Nah, I missed him. The year I left, it was the next year that they came in.
I’m feeling good, man. Once we add Gerald, we’re going to be a force from the East. (It looks like we’re getting) Matt Carroll back, and then we’ve got J-Rich coming in, plus all the other guys that we have already. We add Gerald to that, and we’re going to be a force from the East.
(On how things are going)
Basically we’re trying to get a grasp on the transitions. It’s a new coach, so we’re all on the same platform of knowing what he wants. We’re coming out here to learn his offense and I’m hoping to shoot the ball. I’m just playing hard and I think that’s all Coach Vincent is asking for. Defensively, I’m concentrating on that a little bit more than anything.
He’s defensive-minded; he focuses on defense a lot these past couple days, forcing the baseline, talking, trusting your teammates offensively, just trying to push the ball in transition, wings get out and run. We’re just trying to pick it up here, trying to really go hard and give it 100 percent. I listen and don’t make the same mistakes that someone made earlier. I’m just playing my role, and I think I’m doing a pretty good job at that.
There are some similarities. He put a couple plays in that have a flex offense. That’s all we ran in college. So far a couple plays that he put in, even through transition, end up having a flex look. You’re doing a baseline screen and coming off the screen. So it’s very similar in that regard. In another regard, when the ball hits that glass, two guys and myself are going up for that board so that’s very similar. What’s different is a lot of ball screens. We didn’t do a lot of motion up at BC. Defensively it’s a little different because there’s no zone or 3 seconds in the defensive key.
Raymond, basically he’s the veteran out here. He’s the leader, the one calling all the shots. You can tell he knows every step so he knows what he has to say. Adam is just a good player. He’s a good shooter; he does it all pretty much. He’s a lot taller than I imagined.
