Bobcats Sign Shannon Brown

August 6, 2008

Charlotte Bobcats General Manager Rod Higgins announced today that the team has signed free agent guard Shannon Brown. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 6-4, 211-pound Brown appeared in 21 games (four starts) split between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls last season, averaging 5.4 points and 1.0 rebound in 11.4 minutes. In two stints in the D-League, Brown played in 10 games, six for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (Cavaliers affiliate) and four for the Iowa Energy (Bulls affiliate) with averages of 24.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.5 steals in 37.6 minutes. He also played one game for the Albuquerque Thunderbirds in 2006-07, tallying 14 points, six assists and four rebounds in 28 minutes.

An early-entry candidate in the 2006 NBA Draft, Brown was originally selected by the Cavaliers with the 25th overall selection. In two NBA seasons, Brown has appeared in 44 games with nine starts and has averaged 4.3 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.6 assists.

Brown played three seasons at Michigan State and was named All-Big Ten Second Team by media and coaches and Big Ten All-Defensive Team by the league’s coaches as a junior.

Anyone remember Shannon Brown's huge dunk versus the Bobcats when he was with Cleveland. I thought it was Lebron, I had to do a double-take.

Not many people will recognize this as a very good signing, but Shannon Brown is going to seriously produce for whatever team that decides to give him minutes. hopefully its us.

well im not sure how he fits in our team with all our gaurds but i mean he can dunk the heck out of the ball and mabye L.B. has a plan for this guy that we dont know about...

The Bulls are going to be sorry for letting Shannon get away. He's a all round player all he needs is mins. on the floor Good pick for the Cats.

Defense is the reason for this signing. Go Coach Brown.

Shannon Brown is a very active player and he is sick at dunking, so I think the bobcats are lucky to have him.

I watched him play for MSU... he is an amazing player, he will be an excellent addition to the team.

he is an great sing.he is young and an great offensive player.he can shoot and dunk plus he is fast.when he played the whole game 4 the cavs he scored 30. nice sign 4 the cats

I watched Shannon play high school ball here in the Chicago area. His high school is in the same conference as my kids school. Enjoyed watching than as well as MSU, and the short time he was with the Bulls and Cavs.

I think that bobcats did good by picking up Shannon he is an good player i played him& dee brown in high school he can really fly think the bulls will miss him and i am mad they gave him up.

Bobcats New GM:
ent: Great move. Shannon Brown was my favorite college player when he played for Michigan State. I always knew that if he went to a team like ours, he could excel his game. He has plenty of talent, and no one willing to take the time to teach him how to utilize it. Think about it.... Every team he's been on has been trying to contend for a title; and they just didn't have the patients to stop and teach him how to utilize his skills. But our team is known for making players realize there potential and show it. GREAT MOVE, worthy of an A grade. BUT NOW LETS GET A BIG LIKE: Nick Fazekas, Robert Swift, or David Harrison. These players are all young and definetly can all play; now put any one of them in a nucleus like ours and they will make every other big step up there game and produce even harder. GREAT MOVE!

big cuz:
My Lil 'big cuz, will be a very good asset to the bobcats. He is a very well rounded player...just keep watching him and everyone will see what a devastating player he is.
