Seattle did not make things easy for the Bobcats in the contest, rallying from numerous double-digit deficits to pull within one point, 67-66, with 8:27 remaining in the game. Charlotte jumped out to the early lead thanks to eight first-quarter points from Felton. But it wasn’t just Felton who was feeling it in the first 10 minutes of play. The rookie point guard out of North Carolina got some help from his teammates early in the contest, as the Bobcats shot 50.0 percent from the field in the first quarter. However, the Sonics were able to match intensity with the Bobcats, and led by eight points in the quarter from guard Mateen Cleaves, took a 23-20 lead at quarter’s end.
Facing the early deficit, the Bobcats took control of the game in the second half, outscoring Seattle 30-16 in the stanza and taking a 50-39 halftime lead. Felton gave Charlotte a nine-point cushion late in the period after converting a four-point play with 3:29 remaining that put the Bobcats on top, 40-31. From there, Robinson took over, scoring six points in the final two minutes as Charlotte increased its lead.
Seattle battled back in the third quarter and again cut the Bobcats lead to one point with 7:28 on an alley-oop slam by Robert Byrd. With the Sonics threatening, Robinson came through for Charlotte again, contributing four points late in the period. The Bobcats also got a lift off the bench from forward Tommy Smith, with four points of his own in the quarter. Smith finished with eight points.
Seattle (2-3) was led by Cleaves with 18 points, while Kaniel Dickens notched a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Bobcats will play their last game in the Rocky Mountain Revue on Friday at 4:00 p.m. (EST) against Atlanta. With a win over Atlanta, Charlotte would post the best record in the summer league.
