Bobcats President of Basketball Operations Rod Higgins announced today that the team has acquired center Byron Mullens from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for a 2013 second-round draft pick.
The 7-0 Mullens was originally selected by Dallas with the 24th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft before having his rights traded to Oklahoma City, where he has appeared in 26 career NBA games in two seasons. He has also played in 41 games for the Thunder’s D-League affiliate, the Tulsa 66ers, over the last two seasons, averaging 15.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks.
Mullens played just one season at Ohio State, with averages of 8.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 20.3 minutes as a freshman. He led the Big Ten in field goal percentage (.703) and posted 12 double-doubles in his final 17 games.
