Twenty children and eight adults who were relocated to Charlotte as a result of the hurricane last August were treated with complimentary tickets, Bobcats apparel and goodie bags and a postgame photograph and meet-and-greet session with Bobcats players. The Salvation Army provided transportation to and from the game.
“We are honored to provide this unique opportunity for families who have overcome a tragic situation,” said Bobcats Vice President of Community Relations LaRita Barber before the game. “We look forward to treating them to a fun and exciting day and to make a connection with them, the Bobcats and the Charlotte community as we host New Orleans.”
The Salvation Army has been one of the leaders of the Katrina Relief efforts in Charlotte. They have provided services to about 250 evacuees. Right now, they are providing some rental assistance and supportive services to those in need. There is also a Katrina Survivors support group. The Salvation Army is trying to help the New Orleans residents adjust to being in Charlotte and is welcoming them to their new community.
