Charlotte Bobcats guard D.J. Augustin was named to the 2008-09 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team, it was announced today by a vote of NBA head coaches.
Augustin joins previous team selections Emeka Okafor (1st Team, 2004-05), Raymond Felton (2nd Team, 2005-06) and former Bobcats players, Walter Herrmann and Adam Morrison (2nd Team, 2006-07) as the only players in franchise history to receive such an honor.
Augustin appeared in 72 games (12 starts) this season with averages of 11.8 points, 3.5 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 26.5 minutes.
Chicago’s Derrick Rose, Memphis’ O.J. Mayo, Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook, New Jersey’s Brook Lopez and Miami’s Michael Beasley were named to the 2008-09 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie First Team.
Joining Augustin on the 2008-09 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team are the L.A. Clippers’ Eric Gordon, Minnesota’s Kevin Love, Miami’s Mario Chalmers, Memphis’ Marc Gasol and Portland's Rudy Fernandez.
The voting panel consisted of the NBA’s 30 head coaches, who were asked to select five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Two points were awarded for first team votes and one for second team votes.
