Recap: Cougars Can't Catch Stars

TURNING POINTS
Despite shooting 28.6 percent from the field in the first quarter, the Cougars only trailed 24-16 heading to the second… Following Tyrus Thomas' layup with 7:03 remaining in the second quarter that cut the Stars lead to 36-26, Charlotte missed its next five field goal attempts over a 4:15 stretch. When the drought ended on Corey Higgins jumper with 2:48 remaining in the first half, Los Angeles had already rattled off an 11-1 run to take a 47-27 lead the Cougars could not recover from.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Cougars started cold from the field and just could not find their stroke all night, finishing 26 of 74 from the field (35.1 percent) compared to the Stars 41 of 78 (52.6%)… Charlotte struggled even more from long range, connecting on just 1-of-14 3-pointers (7.1 percent) to Los Angeles 8-of-20 treys (40.0 percent)… The Cougars were outrebounded, 48-32, and outscored, 50-28, in the paint.

BOBCATS PLAYERS OF THE GAME
Kemba Walker scored a team-high 19 points and found a way to get to the free-throw line with his shot off target from the field. He finished 11 of 12 from the line and added four assists with no turnovers.

BOBCATS TOP RESERVE
Tyrus Thomas moved out of the starting lineup as Corey Maggette made his first start since January 4. Thomas filled in nicely in the reserve role, finishing with 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting, five rebounds and two assists.

CLIPPERS PLAYER OF THE GAME
Blake Griffin scored a game-high 21 points to go with 10 rebounds, three assists and one block.

"In the fourth quarter I thought that we picked it up and played a little bit better. I can’t point fingers at these guys and fault them. I continue to say when everyone is healthy and we bring everyone back, if this is the way we play then it’s a real problem. But with D.J. (Augustin) not being there, Corey (Maggette) just coming back and Gerald (Henderson) not being there it’s a real problem. We have to just stay with it until everybody’s healthy"

Derek Brown continued his string of solid play off the bench with 10 points and three rebounds. He's scored in double digits in 9 of the Cougars last 11 games… Byron Mullens was the fifth Charlotte player to score in double digits, as he finished with 10 points, four rebounds and two assists… All five Stars starters hit double-digit scoring by the 1:23 mark of the third quarter when DeAndre Jordan's dunk gave him 11 points… Charlotte's previous worst 13th-game losing streak was set from January 11, 2006 - February 1, 2006… D.J. Augustin (toe) and Gerald Henderson (hamstring) were inactive for the Bobcats.
