“Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was such an instrumental figure in history and the Charlotte Bobcats organization is proud to honor him,” said Bobcats President and Chief Operating Officer, Ed Tapscott. “Bobcats events have always been about more than just the game. This is another way our organization can interact with and educate our fans.”
To further enhance the celebration of Dr. King's birthday - commemorating his life, hopes and dreams - the team has themed the entire afternoon of activities to highlight his historical accomplishments, including a 13-piece MLK Museum Collection of paintings, memorabilia and photos from the Levine Museum of the New South chronicling his work.
Other in-game activities include video montages featuring Bobcats players and coaches, special tributes recognizing Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech and a musical tribute by the East Mecklenburg High School Show Choir.
There will also be special presentations from the Bobcats to local groups, including the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ), The Urban League of the Central Carolinas, Charlotte NAACP, Community Building Initiative, The Echo Foundation, YMCA of Greater Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations Committee and the Levine Museum of the New South.
The first 10,000 fans to enter the building will receive a commemorative Dr. King poster with excerpts from his famous speech.
