Kemba Walker vs. Brandon Knight
The Cats fifth preseason game matches up the eighth pick (Brandon Knight, Pistons) and ninth pick (Kemba Walker, Bobcats) in the 2011 NBA Draft…Walker got a rest Tuesday night in Oklahoma City and has started two of the Bobcats other three preseason games as Head Coach Mike Dunlap continues to mix up his rotation to see what guys work best together… Walker is averaging 8.3 points, 2.7 assists, 2.0 rebounds and just 1.0 turnover in 21.7 minutes… Knight has started all four preseason games for the Pistons and is averaging 7.0 points, 5.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds. He’s had issues taking care of the ball however, turning it over 3.5 times each contest… Walker averaged 9.0 points, 4.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds in four games against Detroit last season, while Knight put up 16.5 points, 5.5 assists and 4.8 rebounds in four games against the Cats.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS (1-3 Preseason)
After opening the preseason with a win, the Cats have dropped three-straight games… The Bobcats are averaging 91.8 points in the preseason, led by the hot-shooting Byron Mullens and newcomer Ben Gordon… Mullens and Gordon are the only two Cats who have scored in double-digits in all four preseason games… Mullens is averaging 15.8 points and shooting 43.8 percent (14 of 32) from long range… Gordon became the first Charlotte player to break the 20-point plateau on Tuesday in Oklahoma City, putting up 21 points, four assists and two steals in the losing effort… Gordon leads the team with 16.8 points per contest, despite starting just one game in the preseason… After settling at the bottom of the league last season, Charlotte is shooting it better in the preseason, connecting on 43.2 percent of their shots – good enough for 18th in the NBA… That number could be even better if the Cats 3-pointers were falling. They’re currently 26th in the league shooting 29.2 percent from long range… The Bobcats are also taking better care of the ball in the preseason. They’re tied with Philadelphia and Toronto for seventh in the NBA this preseason, averaging 16.2 turnovers.
SCOUTING THE PISTONS (2-2 Preseason)
Like Charlotte, the Pistons opened the preseason with a win before dropping their next two but were able to pick up a 112-86 win over Orlando at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Tuesday… Detroit has played well on its home court, winning both games they’ve played there in the preseason… The Pistons could pose serious problems for Charlotte in the paint, where Greg Monroe (12.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 0.50 blocks) and rookie Andre Drummond (10.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.25 blocks) have combined for 23.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.75 blocks through four games… Detroit puts up 94.8 points per game in the preseason… Like Charlotte, they’ve shot the ball better from the field (45.5 percent, 14th in NBA) in the preseason, but haven’t hit as much as they’d like from long range (28.9 percent, 27th in NBA)… This will be the first time Corey Maggette and Ben Gordon will be taking on their former squads in the preseason.
The Bobcats will tip off in Detroit at 7:30 p.m. on October 20… Listen to the game on WFNZ and join Matt Rochinski of bobcats.com for the live chat from the Palace of Auburn Hills.
