Bobcats Extend Qualifying Offers To Four Players, Exercise Option On Okafor

The Bobcats have extended qualifying offers to Gerald Wallace, Jason Kapono, Keith Bogans and Matt Carroll. The offer provides the Bobcats with the right to match any other NBA team’s offer for Wallace, Kapono, Bogans and Carroll.

Charlotte has also exercised its fourth-year option on Emeka Okafor's contract, keeping the 2005 NBA got milk? Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie First Team selection in Charlotte through the 2007-08 season. Charlotte had until October 2006 to exercise the option. Okafor led all rookies with averages of 15.1 points and 10.9 rebounds in 35.6 minutes. He was also one of eight NBA players to average a double-double this season.

Wallace appeared in 70 games with 68 starts last season and averaged 11.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.6 steals (ninth in NBA) and 1.3 blocks in 30.7 minutes. He was acquired by the Bobcats in the Charlotte Expansion Selection from Sacramento.

Kapono averaged 8.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 18.4 minutes and ranked 13th in the NBA in three-point field goal percentage (.412) after connecting on 80-194 attempts. He was also acquired in the Charlotte Expansion Selection from Cleveland.

Bogans was acquired by the Bobcats on November 1 from Orlando and appeared in 74 games with averages of 9.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 24.2 minutes. In 42 starts, he averaged 10.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.0 steals in 26.4 minutes.

Carroll signed with Charlotte on February 23 after starting the season in Roanoke of the NBDL. In 25 games, he averaged 9.0 points and 2.4 rebounds in 17.2 minutes. The 2005 NBDL Most Valuable Player and season scoring leader, Carroll reached double-figures 12 times for the Bobcats.
