The Cool School Field trip is a unique educational experience geared to promote literacy, academic achievement and citizenship. Students who attend the event and preseason game must demonstrate strong academic performance, commendable character and service, and also write an essay on character development and have no absences, referrals or suspensions after the first week of school leading up to the event. A group of teachers and administrators will select approximately 13,000 students to attend the game, based on the criteria established for the event.
“The Charlotte Bobcats are proud to assist the education of youth in North and South Carolina,” said Bobcats President and Chief Operating Officer Ed Tapscott. “The Cool School event provides an exclusive opportunity to reward students for exemplary performance in the classroom and as quality people. It is our goal as an organization to assist our leaders of tomorrow through education, literacy and citizenship.”
Gameday activities during the Cool School Field Trip will include curriculum-based character development sessions with a focus on literacy, problem solving activities, motivational messages from the Bobcats coaching staff, interactive competitions and teacher recognition.
“The Cool School Field Trip is another example of how the Bobcats are extending our support and commitment to the educational goals of the Charlotte community,” said Bobcats Vice President of Community Relations LaRita Barber. “The event gives us another opportunity to support relevant community issues and to be a partner in education with area schools. We are excited to provide this non-traditional learning environment for thousands of middle school youth who will participate in the field trip.”
