Chat Transcript: Guard Brevin Knight

Brevin Knight has been one of the main leaders with the Bobcats since the team's inception in 2004. Last season, the 5-10, 170-pound Charlotte co-captain averaged career highs of 12.6 points and 34.1 minutes in 69 games (67 starts), while adding on 3.2 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 2.3 steals.

He ranked second in the NBA in steals behind teammate and fellow co-captain Gerald Wallace and third in assists, and joined Wallace to form the first pair of teammates to finish a season in the top two spots of one of the NBA?s major statistical categories since (steals) since former Boston Celtics players Kevin McHale and Robert Parish finished one and two in field goal percentage (.589) in 1987-88.

Entering his 10th NBA season in 2006-07, Knight is excited about taking the Bobcats to the next level as a leader both on the court and in the locker room.

Brevin stopped by BobcatsBasketball.com on Wednesday, to talk with fans about his two years with the Bobcats, his expectations for the upcoming season, his excitement heading into training camp and more.

Check out all Brevin had to say:

Silvio (Zwickau, Germany): Whats up Brevin! I really like your game and I think you're one of the most underrated guys in this league. My question is. Going into your 10th year in this league, do you still try to get better at certain aspects of the game or do you just try to keep the level you're at right now?

Brevin Knight: You try to maintain, but you also want to improve as much as possible. I will continue to try and improve and work on say...for one thing...shooting the three. I'm not the best player in the league, so yes, there are things I need to work on.

Jon, Wilkesboro: BK, You are the nicest player on the Bobcats team, you are always friendly. Question, how will the new rookies fit in with the existing team? What is the chemistry between yourself and the new players? Have a great season, see you at the game!!

Brevin Knight: Our chemistry will be fine. Our rookies will come in and see that we never quit here, we always keep competing. I think they'll fit in fine with our system and we will compete as a team.

Howard, Richmond Virginia: Hi Brevin! I wanted to know how you felt when you learn that Michael Jordan was joining the bobcats?

Brevin Knight: I was excited. Any time you get a chance to work with, arguably, the greatest player to ever play the game, that's a good thing. We'll listen to everything he has to say, and we'll also try to beat him in games of one-on-one so we can have something to tell our grandkids about. But, as an organization, it's fantastic for us to have someone of his stature, with his knowledge and experience, as part of our team.

Kellie (Summerfield, NC)+: Do you feel more valuable to the team at the point or as two guard?

Brevin Knight: Ha-ha (Laughing) I'm probably more valuable at the one than at the two. I feel more comfortable with the ball in my hands. I don't want to be taking minutes from anybody, but I'm working on my jumpshot just in case they want me at the two, because, of course, I wouldn't mind playing there.

Henderson NC: What is like playing with Gerald Wallace and Emeka Okafor?

Brevin Knight: It's high energy with Gerald and intellect on Emeka's side. Gerald is always on the go and Emeka had some injuries last year, but we think he'll be back stronger than ever for us.

Steve (NC): I read somewhere that you own a kid's furniture store. How did you get into that?

Brevin Knight: That is my wife's thing. She broke me down on that. We've been in business now going on four years with it. It's been alot of fun, we've learned alot and it also gives my wife a chance to work on her talents with art and design. The name of the store is Bellini.

Patrice(Hudson,NC): How hard is it always being the underdog, you your self always having to deal with your size/height and always having to battle for the respect you deserve? You was 2nd in ast. a season ago behind Steve Nash and no 1 noticed it.

Brevin Knight: It's been a lifelong battle for me. I was too small for college basketball and then I was exceptionally too small for NBA basketball. And ten years later, here I still am. There will always be doubters. I believe in myself, my family believes in me and my teammates and organization believe in me. That's all I need.

J. Lubman (commack): What is your personal goal for this season?

Brevin Knight: Hmmm. I'd like to become a more confident three-point shooter and continue to be healthy and have fun and contribute like I have the past two seasons. Those are my personal goals.

Tyler (houston): You've said in the past that you really enjoy this group of teammates. What makes this team so different from the other teams you've been on?

Brevin Knight: I think this team is similar to the team I was drafted by in Cleveland, in that it was mostly no-name guys who had bounced around the league and some young guys. And we have guys on this team, who've been through the same things, overlooked perhaps, but we've also overcome obstacles to succeed in the league. And alot of that credit goes to Bernie.

Koji Lumanog (CEBU): ei whats's up brev? on ur own point of view, who do u think would be the probable franchise player on this young team?

Brevin Knight: I think our franchise player will distinguish himself and remains to be seen. We have a franchise team right now...our strength is in numbers, but I think that a franchise player may yet emerge.

Mike (NJ): How hard is it for pro players to manage their family time with all the practices, games and travel?

Brevin Knight: During the season our families understand that they are first and foremost in our minds, but we are often not physically there. So, we try and make it up during the summer. Also, during the season, when at home, you try and pick your kids up at school and do what you can. It's a tough balance, but as long as everyone understands what's happening and why, it's all good.

Shane: What do you do to work on your ball handling and running a team?

Brevin Knight: The truth? Nothing at this point. It's second-nature to me at this point, I've been doing it since I was two-years-old. It's instinct now. I don't worry about ballhandling. I think more about my shooting and improving in that area.

Rich (Charlotte, NC): I have been hearing that this team has potential. I really believe that. How far do you think you guys can go this year? Thanks

Brevin Knight: I think we can challenge for a playoff spot. That is a realistic goal for us. Taking nothing away from teams who made it last year, I think when you factor in guys being healthy this year and our new guys, I really think we can make that push to the playoffs.

Brevin Knight: Thanks to everyone who asked questions. I hope you'll continue to watch the Bobcats and support the underdog.
