THE RESULT
Rookie Cody Zeller scored 21 points and brought down 13 rebounds as the Cats picked up their first win in Las Vegas, 86-80, over Dallas on July 14, 2013. Jeffery Taylor added 19 points in Charlotte's victory.
TURNING POINTS
While the final score might indicate a closer game, the Bobcats put this one away early, jumping out to a 20-10 lead after the first quarter and entering halftime up 50-28. Cody Zeller nearly recorded a double-double in the first half, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Jeffery Taylor added 10 points and two rebounds. With one minute to go in the half, Zeller and Taylor had combined to outscore and outbound the entire Mavericks squad… Dallas made a push in the second half, mainly with the Cats reserves on the floor, but the starters returned late in the contest to help Charlotte close out the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Bobcats nearly played a flawless first half on both ends of the court. They outshot Dallas 56.3 percent (18-for-32) to 29.0 percent (9-for-31) from the field, 40.0 percent (2-for-5) to 8.3 percent (1-for-12) from 3-point range and 63.2 percent (12-for-19) to 60.0 percent (9-for-15) from the charity stripe. Charlotte dominated the paint in the first half, outscoring the Mavs, 20-8, and outrebounding them, 23-11, wile building its lead to as many as 25 points... The Cats finished the game shooting 51.9 percent (28-for-54) from the field, 36.4 percent (4-for-11) from long range and 66.7 percent (26-for-39) from the free-throw line.
BOBCATS PLAYERS OF THE GAME
Cody Zeller notched a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds while shooting 50.0 percent (6-for-12) from the field and 100.0 percent (9-for-9) from the charity stripe. He added one assist, one block, drew two offensive charges and turned the ball over only twice.
Jeffery Taylor followed up his 24-point performance against the Spurs in the Cats Summer League opener with 19 points to help Charlotte get the win. He brought down five rebounds, knocked down two treys and added an assist and a steal.
MAVERICKS PLAYER OF THE GAME
Jae Crowder helped Dallas chip away at the lead in the second half and finished with 16 points, three assists, two rebounds, two steals and a block.
GAME NOTES
Jerome Dyson got the start at the point for the Cats and took full advantage of the extra playing time, scoring 10 points to go with four assists, one rebound and one steal... Michael Kidd-Gilchrist also scored in double-digits (11 points) for Charlotte while grabbing three boards to go with an assist and a steal... Bismack Biyombo was the lone Bobcats starter not to finish in double-digit scoring, but six of his eight points came late in the fourth quarter to help Charlotte ice the game. He added seven rebounds and blocked a shot.
