Offseason Workout Video | Other Workouts
With Charlotte’s 2008 Training Camp on the horizon, the players can’t wait to get things going as the franchise enters its fifth season, and first under new Head Coach Larry Brown. Over the course of the summer, the Bobcats commitment to improving has been evident at Time Warner Cable Arena, with all 14 players under contract having been seen in the weight room and out on the practice court getting a workout in. Through it all, bobcats.com has been there catching up with the players as they prepare to head to Wilmington, NC, on September 29 for training camp.
Here is what Nazr Mohammed had to say about what he has been up to this offseason and how the team is preparing for the 2008-09 campaign.
bobcats.com: Nazr, we know you are the only guy on this team who has experience playing under Coach Brown and how excited you were when we brought him in. Talk to us about how these workouts have been going and what you’re seeing from the guys with the stuff Coach Brown has implemented.
Mohammed: Everyone is in here working hard, ready to learn. Everyone knows that Coach Brown loves to teach the game, so we’re just trying to absorb as much as we can.
bobcats.com: It seems like Coach Brown put out there early that he wanted guys to get in here and be in shape heading into camp and we’ve see that commitment from the guys out here. Were you surprised with how many guys have come out?
Mohammed: Not at all. Even before Coach Brown was hired that was something that we talked about as a team, that we wanted to come in here and be in shape and get ready for this year. We knew we could do a lot better than we did last year.
bobcats.com: For you, you are a guy who came in in the middle of the season last year. How much more comfortable are you feeling around your teammates this year?
Mohammed: I’m very comfortable. All it is, is the more time you spend with a group, the more comfortable you get.
bobcats.com: We were talking with J-Rich (Jason Richardson) and he said that coming in as a new guy, he didn’t want to take on too much of a leadership role (last season), but you are one of the veterans out here. Do you want to take on more of a leadership role this season?
Mohammed: Yeah, definitely. With me having the most experience of anyone on the team and me having a little bit of experience with Coach Brown, I’m definitely going to take on a leadership role. I think we are going to have a lot of guys step up for that task.
bobcats.com: What are the things that you’ve really worked on in your game this offseason?
Mohammed:Just the same, trying to improve every facet of my game, my shooting, my low post moves, my defense and just my conditioning.
bobcats.com: We’ve also heard you’ve worked on your golf game a little bit this offseason. Isn’t that the case with a couple of holes in one we hear?
Mohammed: Yeah, that’s something I like to do in my spare time. I got real lucky this summer.
bobcats.com: That’s the type of thing that doesn’t happen to many people, maybe that’s a sign of good things to come?
Mohammed: My life has been full of good things so hitting a couple of holes in one just adds to it.
bobcats.com: This year, a lot of expectations are pretty high with this team among the players it seems from the guys we’ve talked to. A lot of guys are already talking playoffs. Is that something you think is the expectation?
Mohammed: It’s definitely an expectation for this team, but we’re not just going to come out here and talk about it. Every team starts the year off talking about that they are going to be a playoff team and we’re going to do this. We are going to work hard, we’re going to play hard and we are going to compete every night and that’s going to give us the opportunity to win games.
