Junior Rollin' Bobcats Finish Second in the Nation

March 9, 2008

Bellevue (Omaha), NE - The Junior Charlotte Rollin' Bobcats finished the season as the second best team in the country after losing to the top seeded and tournament host Nebraska Red Dawgs 34-18 in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association Junior Varsity championship game.

It's the best finish ever for a Bobcats junior team. The adult team won two NWBA national titles in 1996 and 1998.

The Bobcats had advanced to the title game with a 45-31 victory over the #6 seeded Windy City Warriors (Illinois) in the semifinal. The Bobcats' full-court pressure took its toll on the Warriors as their depth allowed them to push the game from end to end. The Bobcats were led by Chris Baker (15 points, 5 rebounds) and Caitlin McDermott (8 points, 9 assists).

Roody Withers was named to the All-Tournament team. Jill Moore and Caitlin McDermott made the All-Girls team with Jacob Tyree named to the All-Boys team.

Withers, McDermott and Chris Baker also played for the East Team in the tournament's All Star game on Saturday night.
