The Bobcats visited Presbyterian

While a rare February wintry mix was forming outside the Presbyterian Hospital, the conditions inside were filled with surprise and delight. Bobcats centers Emeka Okafor and Ryan Hollins as well as mascot Rufus Lynx visited several children and put smiles on their faces, including Sheka, Addyson, Spencer, Christopher and Amber, who Rufus graciously fluffed pillows for.
All the children were presented with Bobcats packages and pennants that were signed by the surprise visitors. When the two centers and the furry orange cat with the shades entered the room, the children immediately put their video games and movies on pause to chat with their guests.
“What video game are you playing?” asked Okafor to one of the patients.
“Barnyard,” shyly replied a young girl named Tamir.
“That’s funny, that’s Ryan’s (Hollins) favorite game” Okafor joked.
The Bobcats continued to visit the patients in each hallway and made sure that each encounter was special and unique. They even did their best Scooby Doo impression for four-year old Shawn, who was watching the show on TV.
The uniqueness of each visit holds great value to the Bobcats big men.
“It’s always fun to come out here and put a smile on these kids’ faces,” expressed Okafor. “Some of them have conditions more serious than other and whatever we can do to help is cool.”
The last patient they saw was 16-year old Hunter, who had requested to be the final visit of the day so that he and the Bobcats can “hang out for a bit.” As soon as the players stepped in his room, they were immediately swarmed by Hunter’s paparazzi-type entourage as they took pictures with their camera phones.
The players didn’t seem to mind it one bit.
“It gives them a chance to feel better and for something to smile about” said Hollins. “(These visits) may seem to be little, but it may brighten their day for a couple of weeks and give them some energy to get better."
