Wallace Happy To Be In Charlotte, Ready For Camp

The Bobcats shored up their roster on Tuesday with the re-signing of restricted free-agent small forward Gerald Wallace.

A mainstay in the starting lineup during the Bobcats’ inaugural season, Wallace was happy to ink a contract that will keep him in Charlotte as the Bobcats continue to build a winning franchise.

"This is where I wanted to stay," he said. "There’s more security here. Now I am more relaxed, and I can just focus more on the season and not worry about contracts."

Wallace produced solid numbers with the Bobcats last season, averaging 11.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. His hustle and up-tempo style also served the Bobcats well on the defensive end, where he finished ninth in the league in steals, and 31st in blocks.

As one of only four Bobcats on the training camp roster with four-or-more years of NBA experience, Wallace brings leadership and toughness to a young organization, along with an eagerness to get into camp and get things going next week.

"My anticipation is just to begin play, period. I’m just ready to back on the court," he said. "I’m ready to get back out there with the guys - my teammates and coaches - and just have fun. We’re going into this season looking to improve on what we did last year."

The team begins training camp in Wilmington on Monday, and Wallace is looking forward to stepping on the court with some of the new faces that joined the Bobcats in the offseason.

"Raymond Felton and Sean May play hard, and that’s one thing the Bobcats do. We play hard every night,” he said. “Felton is a great point guard. He pushes the ball up, and that’s going to up our tempo. Sean is a banger, and he’s another guy we can use to help Emeka out on the boards."
