For the most part, Wallace, Felton and Carroll have been keeping a low profile as of late, getting in some much needed rest after a long season and spending time with friends and family.
“The first three weeks, my wife and I traveled around, saw some family, saw some friends and went back to Notre Dame,” Carroll said. “Just last week I started working out again, and now it’s time to start to get ready to improve my game and get ready for next season.”
Felton also took some time off, but couldn’t stay away from the court for too long.
“I took a couple of weeks off, too,” he said. “I took about a week to go home, spent a week in Chapel Hill and just went a couple places to see some family and friends. But about two weeks ago, I started back working out again. Not really lifting weights or going too hard -- just trying to stay in shape by doing some skill work and trying to get back into it.”
After a season of playing with reckless abandon, Wallace has spent a little more time away from the court, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t kept busy.
“I thought I was going to get some time to relax, but I was at home the day after our last game in the field playing baseball with my kids,” G-Force said. “I’ve been playing baseball all summer with my kids. They just finished up their season Thursday, so I’ve been staying home lately. I’m relaxing now. It’s time off. Right now I’m just chillin’ at the pool.”
But not for long. Wallace heads to Secaucus, New Jersey, as the Bobcats representative at the 2006 NBA Draft lottery Tuesday night -- a distinction he was honored to be selected for by the organization.
“It means a lot to go up there, represent our organization as a whole and hopefully try to come back with the number one pick,” he said. “Well, they did tell me not to come back if we end up picking below three -- I might be looking for a new home. No, they’re just encouraging me to go up, represent the organization and to do our best. The balls will fall where they fall.”
After the lottery, Wallace plans to take a couple more days off before getting back into his training regimen next week.
“I’ll be back at it on Monday morning,” he said. “I’m taking a week to relax and do nothing -- eat, get fat and not sleep. Then I’ll come back in Monday and start to prepare for next season.”
While all three players haven’t spent a lot of time on the court yet this offseason, they have all been seen at Charlotte Bobcats Arena watching Sting preseason games and Saturday’s home opener against Chicago.
“I think it’s important for us to come to their games, because a lot of their players came to a lot of our games this year and supported us,” Carroll said. “We are all here in Charlotte trying to make this thing work, so we should be supporting them. It was an exciting game that came down to the wire, too.”
Wallace has been caught up in the excitement, as well.
“It’s good basketball,” he said. “I have season tickets for the Sting and I enjoy watching them play basketball -- at this level, they are fundamentally sound.”
Felton also enjoys watching Charlotte’s WNBA team get after it and is trying to establish a good relationship with the Sting following his first NBA season. He was one of the first people to greet Andrea Stinson as she walked off the court on Saturday after having her jersey retired at halftime.
“She supported us a lot this year, and what she did here was something special,” he said. “We are like a family -- they’re like our sisters and we are like their brothers, so you know we are going to support them, just like they support us. I’m pretty much going to be at every game that I can.”
